bike riding a few times a week.

i know what your saying, when i was pelting my legs down the bike felt spongy.
i will keep it for now and just rag it until im ready for a better bike.

im going to venture over to delamere forrest one day and hammer it around the forrest.

Totally. Don't be put off by my saying a road bike would be better. The important thing is turning the pedals on anything you can lay your hands on.

Id deffo look at a better bike but for now keep it , i bought an old raleigh (sp?) off ebay for 40 quid and ragged it till i could actually see that id lost weight , this made me decide to keep up the riding and invest in a better bike

full suspension is really a no no for every day riding,it just saps all of your energy :(

It will help but you really need to do three 20-second bursts of near-delirium,high intensity work outs on your bike three times a week, or a grand total of three minutes’ exercise.
both your insulin sensitivity and aerobic fitness will vastly improved. As these are two things that are likely to make you live longer

Started cycling 5 miles each way to work a few weeks ago when I changed jobs and feel enormously better for it. It also reduces the guilt if I don't get to the gym after a late finish. The advantage of commuting for fitness is that there's always a great incentive to minimise the time doing it by riding faster.

Regarding the high intensity side, it's way better cycling in the real world as you'll encounter a hill or a scary roundabout which you need to put in 100% effort for.

Keep going! It's so much better than running!

EDIT: cycling can be an expensive hobby, but a good bike which is well maintained never really goes out of date and will last ages.

The difference that is going to make doesn't bear thinking about :) Nice one.

Got shorts yet? Don't want to spend to long on a gel seat cover, the pressure displacement on your butt isn't good for circulation and will put pressure on nerves that would otherwise not be squashed on a proper fitting saddle that takes your weight on your sit bones.

thanks guys.

yes have bought the padded lycras and jersey although i think the jersey is too tight lol with some shimano 540 pedals and ro64 shoes, helmet, glasses, socks, got all the gear.

the bike was £140 off gumtree plus the wheels were £50 with tyres both brand new.
so reckon i got a bargain there.

first trip out going for a 30 miler.

is the jersey castelli fit?

Castelli Fit

Castelli apparel is cut to fit closely against the skin for excellent aerodynamics and moisture wicking performance. On the bike, your Castelli jersey should fit close to the skin, Off the bike, it jersey might feel tight across the chest and a little short in front. Shorts should fit tightly enough to support critical leg muscles through compression without inhibiting movement and constricting blood flow.
I think castelli is for the freaks that shave every hair from their body

lol i maybe able to raise it another inch or so once i have my shoes and cleats on.

its a 54 frame, the 51 has 650c wheels hence why i went for the 54, i am a bit of a short ass though at 5ft4" :)

Good choice - Craft make some nice kit. Their base layers are worth checking out.

And don't list to Arknor ( ;) ), cycling tops are meant to be worn close to the skin and generally a little shorter at the front than at the back due to the position you ride in on a road bike (as opposed to the upright position on a MTB or hybrid). More comfortable and much better for wicking sweat away when you're working hard too.

thanks bud.
only had an apple before i started, towards the end i ran out of energy.

whats a good starter breakfast and is it worth taking those energy shots ?
