Hello fellow OCUK bikers.

I had a ZX6R until a few weeks ago when it got nicked (Red/Purple, 1995 model, missing crash mushroom and damage to fairing on left hand side, Maidstone area, just in case anyone sees it), and now have a ZZR 600, which is okay, and I'm sure any actual disatisfaction is just because I didn't want a new (for certain values of new - this is a 1997 model) bike not because there's anything wrong with it.

Mainly just commute, but I'm also a rider for SERV (though haven't been out for a couple of months due to weather).

Have pondered getting a SatNav because my sense of direction is rubbish - do you have to pay a subscription fee to them, or is it a one off cost?

One off cost but bike units tend to be very, very expensive. You do get pretty much all the toys though (my garmin had bluetooth to my phone, music player with sd card slot, it could read out road names etc)

I still am tempted by a satnav and if you really think it aint dangerous to have one then i really need to think about it. Maybe if i hold off on getting one for a couple months and just concentrate on getting used to my new bike then ill treat myself.

So the TomTom Rider pretty good then?

Mate I got a TomTom within a week of buying my first bike, wanted to get loads of experience in, so headed off into the lake district etc, and was very handy for coming home in a reasonable time, rather than taking ages and getting lost lol.

But yeah, TomTom rider is really good, fully water proof, near indestructible, and very usable.

Thats a big reason for getting myself a satnav, as i know if i go more than 20 miles ill get lost, and then have to turn it into a camping trip:p

Got a 09 YBR125, had it since my 17th birthday in March last year, only covered 3500 miles since :(. Just due for its first service now, which is useful as I'm gonna be riding it more soon.

Should be on it's second service now mate, first one should off been at either 600 or 800 mile mark IIRC.

Not looking good at the moment for my Guzzis, the Spada is running rough as hell due to something with the carbs, and the front forks on the V50 might be on the way out too. I'm leaning towards getting rid of both and buying a Norge, either a used 06/07 or perhaps one of the new 8V beasties. Open to suggestions for any other V-twin tourers though.

Also have a TomTom Rider, can't fault it and it's definitely worth the cost. That said, I never did try the Garmin alternative.

hah! I didn't mind no satnav so much in the England when I was in no rush to be home, when racing back from Luxembourg for the ferry and having to keep stopping to check Google Maps on the phone I kind of wished I had it then!

Anyway: Been over a year since no bike and I am determined to get one this year, probably Sprint or Tiger as I have touring aspirations. Overly concerned about getting ABS after stupid off - restricts my choice until/unless concern subsides.

I meant first proper service, well to me it is its first 'proper' service as it's the only one I've had to pay for so far, as Yamaha paid for it's first service, I just had to pay for the oil which was £8. :)

Been out on the bike a few times last couple of weeks. Sadly the seat has split over winter while it was in the garage. It was looking stressed before I put it away for xmas. It needs recovering now for summer. It needs an MOT and taxing again at the end of the month!

Lucky son of a! Thats the bike I would love after passing, but out of my price range. I've got a soft spot for its underseat exhausts! :D

looking at getting myself back on the bike ladder in June, it will be 2 years in march since I wrote off my R1 and if I dont get one this year I dont think I ever will. Ive calmed down a lot in the last years so I dont need such a full on nutters bike, more of a weekend pose machine , so im lookin ginto something different. I am setting myself a budget of 6k, So far I have be looking at.

Ducati 999 - I know the running costs will be pretty high but I wont be doing any mor ethen 5,000 a year, prob more like 2-3.

Honda SP2 - My brother bought an SP1 recently, had a go and found the clutch very on/off and feul injection a bit crap. handled well and sounds emmense though.

Both are V Twins, never owned one before but I just love the sound of them. Really need to try and get a test ride on each of them before I buy, doing that is a right pain in the packside though. If anyone has owned/ridden either and can give me any feedback on handling, running costs etc I would be most grateful.
