Bikers Youtube thread

A classic case of didn't look properly. Looking at when they pulled out you would have just been behind the 2 cars that passed. It's very easy to do unfortunately, a quick glance and they think it's all clear...

I don't mind the people that do this, then see they're pulled out and accelerate up to speed quickly, it's the ones who pull out and pootle along that get me, had the same in a 30 zone last night, me doing 35 max (making lots of noise so they couldn't have not heard me coming), car pulls out a side road - had looooooads of time to slow down and give a 5 second long blast on the horn, but they just pottered along at 15mph, didn't bother getting up to speed, then beeped their horn back at me!

Thanks, I was pretty lucky I came off before it flipped really. To think I ended up with a cut finger, sore wrist, grazed inner arm and bruised thigh is not too bad for somewhere in the region of 120mph (5th gear). All part of the hobby I guess, front wheel got ripped off the bike, forks trashed, sub frame broke, tank dented and that's all I know so far. Was in the van by the time I got back from the ambulance, my Dad was in bit of a panic to say the least when he saw the bike!

gutted mate to see that mate, looks a bit more than a small off ;)

Is the frame all straight ? can it be re-built.

I'm looking at getting the same model R6 as a track bike, how you finding it on track?

Had a small off at Pembrey this weekend :( I'm ok (battered and bruised) but the bike has seen better days...

Ouch that was not a slow off, glad you walked away from it, with that amount of damage though I would be getting the frame checked just to be sure.

Any pics of the damage... :D

@edd1e: The R6 is a great bike for the track no doubt, plenty for any average joe like myself to use on track. I'd done a bit to mine but even stock you will have a good time. Normally feels like it is on rails (a damper is a must) but at Pembrey I just didn't feel like I had the grip. Whether that was tyres, weather, track, me trying hard or what I don't know? Had the rear sliding a lot which is unusual for me, though never in the corner I crashed on.

Looking back there was a guy a couple laps earlier going slowly looking down at his bike going into that corner, I wondered if he dropped something? Just seemed so odd the way it let go like that, it also happened as the rear went over the join in the tarmac, there are a lot of lumps and bumps like that there.

@Fireskull: The bike is in my Dad's van still as the front wheel was ripped off and the two of us couldn't carry it (me having a sore wrist) but he sent me these pictures earlier. I will certainly have the frame checked (especially around the yoke), according to Dad the motor hasn't leaked any coolant or oil which is a miracle so hopefully still in good shape (fingers crossed!).

That'll buff out ;)

I'm guessing (haven't watched the video) the front wheel dug in and flipped the bike, surely that will have bent or cracked the frame near the headstock.

The kink at Pembrey is a fast corner, a racing buddy always said you should be able to go through it flat but I was never brave enough even then it felt fast enough, at that speed the bike just doesnt want to turn especially with the throttle open.

My first crash was at Honda Curve. The joys.

I don't think I will be trying to go through it flat any time soon! :D I'm still a little unsure what exactly happened so if anyone has any ideas please feel free to let me know, I'm uploading the entire session now, can compare it to the previous laps then.

I can see from watching it back in slow motion its sliding side ways then grips, flips lands kinda on the front, bounces on the back then crashed down on the front where the clocks and such are then the camera comes off.

Jaysus, that's seen better days. :( hope it's all fixable. Even though the front wheel has been ripped out the rest 'looks' not to bad (as in fixable)... just depends if the frame is straight I guess. Can you get a bent frame repaired/straightened or not?

Slicks on a 600? that's committed :D

Anyway, so now that i'm looking for one... i'll give you a pack of Haribo and a Mars bar for it? :D

p.s. i find it pretty amazing the only thing that looks untouched is the crash bung?? lol.

to be honest I have no idea, it's hard to tell from that angle, but it looks like it came around on you very fast / easily. I doubt anyone would have not ended up on the floor in that scenario.

Deal, but it must be the fizzy ones ;)

The track day slicks are actually cheaper than road tyres so it was bit of a no brainer really and they don't need tyre warmers unlike the race slicks you can buy (which are also A LOT more expensive).

With a bit of luck it will be fixable, maybe not road worthy again but certainly track worthy. Not a single casing is broken apparently and neither has any coolant leaked so that's bit of a relief. But these things happens when you take it to the track, rather it happen there than trying to be a hero on the road :)
