Bikers Youtube thread

I love that crackle from the exhaust, it reminds me of my KTM whilst cruising on low rpms it gives you that pop/crackle every now and then.

I wonder why everyone says that this bike is so perfect in every detail making it too boring, surely if its that good it will have better sale figures than the GS and other adventures in that category? If I was an instructor I would consider this bike as my main, it would probably make my life a hell lot easier. When I did my CBT, I had a chat with the instructor which let me lift his VFR 1200 of the stand and sit on it, it was heavy! 500kg? I personally would hate to own/ride a heavy bike like that, it is probably great on the highway. But for riding around the town I bet its no fun, you would have to be skilled to filter something that big in busy traffic.

Pure and simple, a lack of character. A bike can do everything amazingly well and be dead easy to ride, but apart from the speed - if it doesn't excite you, well...

Put it another way - would you rather have a bird that cooks brilliantly, does everything you want of her and never lets you down, but has zero personality... or would you prefer a woman who is maybe not the best at everything, still does things well, but makes up for it with a brilliant personality and keeps you on your toes rather than being boringly reliable?

And 500kg :D haha. A typical 125 weighs around 130-180kg, a normal 400/600/1000 will weigh around 180-220kg, the VFR1200 and other large touring 1200's are 220-270kg. You only notice the weight when stopped or moving the bike manually. Even at a few mph, all the weight is gone, in fact more weight means a more planted bike - less flighty, more stable, so actually easier to filter, if you can fit it through the gaps of course.

I guess this is an okay place to ask rather than starting another thread.

What mic do you guys use for your videos?

I've just got around to attaching my GoPro and wow that is some serious wind noise. Basically anything over 45MPH is just hissing and this is in the fully enclosed case!!

I'll have to try find a second hand case I can cut a hole in the side and attach a mic into the port but back on topic, what microphone would you guys recommend and where should I put it?

I don't want to vLog as I hate the sound of my voice in recordings but just outside noise without the wind would be ideal.

External camera mounted in the rear of my helmet behind padding. Still get the audible wind noise from high speed but that's from the helmet rather than direct wind noise onto the mic. A half decent compromise between dedicated recorder and all out crap audio.

That thing is far to expensive. I'm thinking of a £20 mic or something that will improve the GoPros built in mic.

edit: I should have clarified after asking what you guys use, what would you then recommend me on a budget lol.

Zoom H2N or Zoom H4N with some foam around it at the back of the bike or in your pocket and or rucksack side pocket should be good.

RJ has his H4N in his pocket whilst making videos, another guy which rides the R6 restricted to 48PS that I post videos of has the H2N and the mic is at the back with foam round it. To me the sound seems good, apart from the price of those recorders. :p

I used to use one but there's no need and it's a massive hassle.

The cheapest mics are the best ones typically, but you need to make your own wind sock to really get good audio. I cut up a small piece of an old clean sock and zip tied it around the mic to block out the wind.

There's that amazon microphone for like £1.57, my friend used it with her camera. But she had the camera on the tripod, so it might not block out the wind noise as well as on the bike. But the microphone is tiny and can be easily fitted in your helmet which should help.

BTW I want this mini! :D
