Bikers....

I do, but my whole reason for starting the thread was to try and get some input from the biking community so I can understand a bit more. In the same way someone who rides a bike but never driven a car could come to me and ask for some insight into the mentality of a bad car drive, I would probably be able to give it to them - doesnt mean I'm a bad driver though.

Yet any input we give you is simply replied to with "that is dangerous!" and "why should bikers have different rules!" or some anecdote of an idiot on a bike.

On my way to work this morning I made a point of counting the number of bikes I saw and if they were doing anything stupid. 4 in total, one idiot (overtook 2 cars to go through a red light). One was even waiting in a queue because the lane would have been too narrow to pass the cars. So 25% seems to be about right!
Sorry, but this is useless. Assuming you're driving normally, any bikers riding normally are probably traveling at about the same speed, so you'll neither catch nor be caught up by them. If you want to do a proper survey, you need to be stationary. I kind of see where you're coming from - heck I've seen enough lunatic manoeuvres in 7 years of motoring, but I think you're getting the figures a little out of proportion.

Nothing more to add, but "tarmac burger" has to be one of the best expressions I've heard in a long time :D

not really, bet you wouldn't use it if you came across some poor biker in road...

pretty grim tbh

i know a girl who's hit a biker head on at about 50mph... she doesn't use that expression, in fact, she's pretty messed up inside. neadless to say biker did not live.

sry to seem abit *&%&, but one of my pet hates is people making up 'funny' nick names for people who have been in accidents...

Quite right Flukester, however it is quite a good point for him to end on, I don't think anything else would illustrate his irrational loathing of bikers quite so well.

Not so, I suggest you go back and re-read my posts if you think that is the case. If someone suggests tailgating is safe then of course I'm going to say that.

The anecdotes I have mentioned have been real situations, said to back up my experience of certain bikers.

I've only stated facts in this thread, and never implied that I dislike bikers in general. From the silly overreactions in this thread though, I'm beginning to.

Was merely stating it was an amusing expression, not anything more. I think a lot of people are vastly overreacting to this thread

Apart from the fact what I brought up was not tailgating, it's performing a safe overtake. Tailgating is sitting on your back bumper for long periods of time in a hope to get you to pull over or speed up.

Said to back up your experience of certain bikers? So you're asking reasonable bike riders to explain the decisions of morons? Can you not see the flaw in that idea?

You either have a problem with all bikers, idiotic bikers or do not have a problem with bikers at all. The middle is fair enough, but when you start shooting down what decent bikers have to say about riding a bike and start saying we expect different rules it appears that you have a problem with us all.

I read it as tailgating, if thats not what was meant then I apologise.

I can appreciate how it seems flawed, but if a non-driver biker asked me why moron drivers acted like they do, I could probably explain, if not condone it.

Not to much extent, because I cant read minds, but if you asked me why drivers often dont see bikes and will change lanes without looking, I could explain about blind spots etc that someone who hasnt driven a car might not understand. That might seem daft because most bikers are also drivers but the opposite isnt true. There's a lot of things about bikes that I dont know about or understand, so an insight into them would help me understand why some bikers act like idiots, and how certain things can seem idiotic but arent.

That was the original point of the thread

I have a problem with idiotic bikers. When I said in my original post "they act like the rules are different", by "they" I meant the idiots, not all bikers.

Not really... assuming a 50/50 split of traffic in each direction, it's possible that, in the worst case scenario of everyone traveling in the same direction behaving themselves, your idea of 50%/50% good/bad riders could be 50% out. As I said, I kind of see where you're coming from, but if you're going to use statistics to back up your argument then you need to make sure they are correct :p.

Fair enough, although in relality it's probably much more complicated! It wasn't meant to back up any argument really, merely an anecdote that seemed to back up a guestimate that was previously made

I think it sums up your view on bikers.. and almost makes your posts here worthless.

I don't think many other bikers find the term 'tarmac burger' 'amusing', it's pretty distastful..

Some years back when I bought my Busa a 'm8' then sent me tons of photos via email of dead bikers for fun, told him exactly what I thought of him and don't have the time for the guy any more.

In reality you were counting people who were not stuck in traffic while you sat in your car getting annoyed at your lack of progress :)

Not so, as I said, one of the 4 I saw was sitting in the queue in front of me patiently. He probably could have barged his way past if he was really determined, but it would have been stupid because the lane was too narrow.

I apologise if me finding the tarmac burger expression amusing has offended anyone, I wouldnt dream of applying it to a real world situation or laugh at anyone's misfortune.

Don't worry, I'm not offended in the slightest (and I'm one of the few people on here with the qualifications to be offended or not!).

No probs, I don't mind at all. Back in '89 I crashed my bike into a telephone pole, which then bounced me into a fence.
Amongst my injuries were broken ribs, punctured lung and a broken back which has left me paralysed from the chest down. The accident was my own fault, so I have youthful immortality to blame.
I'd like to point out that I have a couple of biker friends and definitely don't have a negative attitude to them at all.

It was certainly an eye-opener when I came across some of the 'old boys' who had been in 'chairs for years and referred to themselves as 'raspberries'.

Thats just it though, if there is enough room he can pass... if not, he can't barge through so has to wait, the gap is either there or not.

No worries on that expression btw, doesnt 'offend', it's just not good in a thread about bikers :)
