Billion 7800N -early thoughts

How do you set up Routerstats to read from the Billion? Can get the Lite version to read the basics, but can't seem to get anywhere with the full version!

Looking like i'll probably DSR mine, It's proving absolutely useless. Can't hold the line at any SNR that'll get it over a 1.5Mb sync. Guess i'll go back to my 834gt.

Routerstats seems to rule out an obvious noise issue, I've been monitoring it with a 1s sample rate and the SNRM is rock steady, maybe 0.5dB variation. Plus it's the same conditions that every other router i've owned manages a comfortable 2Mb sync on.

Massive disappointment.

Perhaps you've simply got a bad one; or for whatever reason it doesnt like your line. Whilst it's not worlds better than my old DG834GT and PN, its definately better. Where I see a disconnect with this; I would have seen 4-5 on average with them, no joke. It's also much better at dealing with loading, so for example if I test it with a torrent, the DGs would keel over due to connections etc; whereas providing I'm not saturating the actual bandwidth, this is much more responsive (and even if I do it still deals with it better).

Shame it hasn't worked for you; that said its expensive so if you're not having luck with it I can understand you wanting to send it back!

I'll be trying some more stuff over the weekend, Here's the overnight stats if anything stands out to anyone. Forgot to set automatic graph capturing, so the snrm is only for the last hour (3600 samples)

Seems stable at 16dB SNRM, going to tweak the snrm down to ~10 today and see if i get any stability.

I'm determined to get one of these things

Just had my second canceled in as many days, not having much luck!

Thank you for your recent order.

Unfortunately, due to an overwhelming amount of interest in this
product as part of our Summer Clearance Event we are unable to
complete your order.

You might consider the Billion Bipac 7402gxl-3g/adsl2+ Wireless G
Router as an alternaive, also discounted in the sale:

Yes right.

I just had a look on there site again and the product is not even coming up now :( best they could not believe there luck with that price drop, its still around £115+ everywhere else

Zarf

I am struggling to understand your connection

Your SNR is VERY high
Your sync is VERY low
Your error rate is high

For that attentuation with say a 9db SNR you should be getting a sync around 3200-3500 and few errors

Ok it connects to the internet, as the stats show it connected. I can see the 7800n`s config page. But I can not connect to the internet.

Any clues what to look for. Im currently using it as just a router (my old AM200 as modem).

Please help

So does your router show the sync speeds AND connected or just the sync speeds?
(I'm presuming you've gone through the setup and whacked in all your details inc password etc correct)

If you've got both sync readings and also are listed connected to the ISP, might be worth checking your computer isn't set with a static IP and thinks the gateway is a different IP to the Billion.
That's assuming you're not using the DHCP to autoconfig the IP address.

I've just set up my 7800n and was having the same problem (on O2). Alexrose1uk was right - it was down to the static IP my PC had (I use Linux Ubuntu and had previously configured a static IP. I changed the Gateway within the config file, restarted networking and it connected no problem.

One problem I'm having though.....I have a number of wireless devices connected to my previous router so for ease, wanted to keep the same password. My password was a combination of letters/numbers/other characters (eg. ) and + ). It won't allow me to have a password with non-alphanumeric characters. Is there a way around this?

It shows as connected with up and down stream speeds. (Im on LLU) My PC is not set to static IP and nver has. My AM200 just connects, so does my o2 BOX. But the Billion just seems to connect but neither LAN or Wireless can connect to the net.
