Bioware's Anthem

God knows how people play with motionblur on like this..gave me a god awful headache watching this video. Way too much motionblur, one of the first things I always turn off in games.

Hmmm not sure if I can get excited over this now, I have that creeping doom feeling that it'll be a disappointment.

Environment looks good, kind of reminiscent of that planet in Avatar (Pandora was it?). Love the underwater parts they've shown, and I hope the story/characters are at least average for Bioware's "A" team.

But I must say the Iron Man style suits don't inspire me at all - and there's only four of them. I certainly don't care for the tank or ranger, and if the mage is only an elementalist then that just leaves the rogue... Unless they have a vast power customisation system to cover things like illusionist or telekinetic abilities for the mage suit.

So yeah I'm not sure the combat's going to be my cup of tea, when compared with things like mass effect 3 multiplayer type abilities or warframe with the vast number of different abilities.

Was gonna sign up though I'm far from inspired by the game but the playtest windows are a bit meh and don't work for me with my current work schedule, etc.

I've been in dozens of closed/private/internal alpha and beta testing over the years and almost if not all have run over 2-3 days at a time, etc. even if they had periods specifically for testing something specific.

It's kinda how I feel about most EA games coming out, specially the big titles with Frostbite engine. Absolutely gorgeous environments/worlds, but horrendously dull gameplay. This looks like if they did away with the pretence of the ****** storytelling from Andromeda and slapped co-op on it.

It's too bad really, Bioware as we knew it is well & truly dead now.

Yup :( it is annoying because the same passion and attention to detail that is evident in their graphics design is absolutely lacking in gameplay and the "glue" code that holds the game logic, etc. together. They really need to take a step back with EA/Dice/Bioware but money talks and when they can mass produce **** and convince people they are enjoying steak* and people just lap it up they have no motivation to do better (one of the reasons I find it so frustrating when people defend half arsed products - why would you not want them to be better?).

* One of the latest things being this whole "influencer" stuff.

did anyone get in?

I'm actually in but I can't be bothered with it the testing setup/schedule is just weird and seems a bit pointless - I guess it is to test specific things but the manner they are organising it is meh and completely impractical.

how did you find out?

From the closed alpha Q&A

"Can I pre-download the Closed Alpha?
Yes. If you’re registered for a Community Playtest, you’ll get an email with instructions to download the client for the Closed Alpha before it begins."

So if we're picked we should get an email before hand.

Just got an email saying I'd been accepted and can now pre-load.
Have not really looked into or watched anything about the game so will be going in completely blind, hopefully I'll be pleasantly surprised but if not....meh.
