BitFenix Recon Owners

Chris will be very angry with me for posting this, but here is a VERY early preview of the dark theme. He's working on it now and should be finished in a day or two, or "when it's done"

Here's what mine looks like (with the default light theme)

(Yes, I know 45C looks hot but it's not... it's just where the probe is located (on my gfx cards's heatsink for that one, hehehe). Also, the little numbers next to the temperature are examples of "probe affinity". For channels 1 and 2 in the screenshot I am using channel 3's probe.

This could be the release to end all releases. Can't wait. Thanks again for this great little prog. Bitfenix should ditch their crap and employ you tbh.

It won't be the last release. There are too many "test fans", Recon units, multimeters and all sorts of rubbish scattered across my desk to just "stop" :D It's a bit of an addiction now. Still lots to do!

Should we set up a donate button? ;)

You should, id happily donate. :)

Version 1.3.0 has been released

This is a major feature release and is a direct result of the solid
framework built into the previous releases. We’ve included a new
preference panel that allows you to set some basic environment settings,
name fans and temperatures, set startup and shutdown profiles and use
custom themes. If you know how to write custom stylesheets for the web
then creating your own custom themes will be familiar. The RPM
indicators have been modified to move with the current rpm until they
reach their target RPM. The RPM sliders now use a logarithmic scale
instead of the previous linear scale; this can be toggled in
preferences. Software auto has been tweaked to operate more smoothly
and reliably, and finally the usual bug fixes.

Man, i guess i should have put down the theme for a minute and caught up with the posts :)

Don't worry this is definitely not the last release, we already have some plans for version 1.4 and we always have the remote control to hammer out. I think it's going to be really hard to out do this one though... 1.3.0 = my favorite release yet :)

This release looks great, with startup options. Will let you know how i get on with it in due course.

EDIT

Yes this is great. Love the new look and the fact you can choose startup profiles.

The ability to right click the tray icon and select profiles would still be a worthwhile addition imo.

Thanks Matt.

Yeah, select profiles from tray icon right click will definitely be in the next version. It'll have to be limited to a reasonable amount of profiles and I'm still thinking about the best way to do this. Perhaps in the profile management dialog there can be a "mark as favourite" option and only the favourites shown in the context menu... limited to maybe 10 (or some other random number :))

5 Is more than enough for my needs. :p

At the moment im rocking four profiles. Idle, Quiet Gaming, Gaming and Benchmark. Quiet to loud.

I've noticed an annoying issue.

For some reason in this version my fan in slot 1 keeps revving up to full speed for a while using my idle profile.

It can run 1100-2300. I normally run it at 1200, running it at 1100 makes it rev up a lot. As it used to stand it would sometimes rev up to full speed, but rarely. Maybe a few times a week.

Now it seems to do it every 5-10 minutes.

Fans are sp120.

I'm also seeing a lot more variation in other fan speeds. Going from default 1200- down to 1100 and up to 1400. Before it would only ever go up to 1300. This is on my second sp120 fan slot 2.

Thanks for the report, Matt.

Is this using software auto or one of the hardware auto modes?

You can email me at phoebetria.software at gmail.com if you like and we'll try and sort it out. There have been changes to the way software auto works -- changes that I thought would make things more stable but perhaps for some fan combinations (or other factor) the reverse has happened.

Cheers
Craig

Edit: you seem knowledgeable so I can even send you pre-release builds to test if I work out what's going on ;) (.exe only -- you already have the libraries ;))

Cheers
Craig

Looks awesome! Cant wait to get proper internet and try this out :D

Thanks! :)

Thanks! :)

I'm using manual mode with preset profiles. I type in the fan number myself.

Do you still have the previous version of Phoebetria? If so can you confirm that the problem goes away with the previous version?

Edit: actually a better way to see if it's Phoebetria that is the root cause would be to set the manual settings and close Phoebetria. If the problem goes away then I'd better start bug hunting ;)

Matt, just checking... are all your RPMs a multiple of 100? I just realised that Phoebetria lets you set RPMs that are not a multiple of 100 without giving a warning.

Edit: I've added "Select Profile" to the tray icon context menu. If you don't want to wait for the next release either email, or join the forums at www.phoebetria.com and I'll organise to get a copy of the .exe into your hands ;)

I think i know what caused it. Rather than typing the desired RPM in i was using the slider. For whatever reason the slider doesn't seem as accurate, it fluctuates more.

After typing in the correct RPM it seems to be more stable, so panic over i think.

Will update it the issue occurs again.
