Black Adam (DC Movie)

Even though I only gave it a 7/10 I really want to see it again and nudge it up to 8/10 :D

Too many Dwayne Johnson detractors in this thread :D I mean i'm not a hardcore fan of all of his movies but if you look at his recent releases he has many more hits than misses, quite high grosses at Box Office, and is a producer on a lot of the titles and has his own production company.

Not bad for an ex wrestler :p

I don't mind him but certainly not a huge fan. If I come out and have really enjoyed a film then it's done its job. How I felt after this one.

I should have known this was going to be another garbage film, still better that some of the recent Marvel films. 4/10. Oh well, this year has been so dry when it comes to good films.

My wife and I watched this at the cinema recently and we both agreed it was the best performance from The Rock in quite some time.

But that's not really a plus point is it?

The back story, the script, the effects, the presentation, and everything else really just felt it was pushed for no other reason than to extent the viewing time . . . . . .

And lead into the finale - no spoilers here.

Pierce Brosnan presenting himself as a cut price, Aldi level Iron Man has never been so out of his depth since he attempted 007 - and I'm not including the humiliating ABBA movie this reply.

Really - this movie would seriously struggle to attain 5/10 on a good day imo!

Saw it in 4DX last night and it was great. Some of the effects (such as swirling wind) really had the seats going nuts, plus the smoke and lighting effects were great.

Story... was decent but you can tell the violence was toned down, so I'm hoping we get to see a director's cut on Bluray. I like how DC have just gone all-in with their characters and not felt the need to do an origin story for all of the JLA, although I'm not convinced on the choice of the characters they went with. 7.5 from me.

This is Dwayne Johnson's best role but I didn't buy in to him being Black Adam. Every time I saw him, it just felt like any other of his films and his delivery felt same-y, with the mildly annoying whisper he was doing.

The end credits scene though *thumbs up*

It's okay, doubt it's going to win any awards but it's worth a watch. It's already done fairly well domestically, and I'm sure thanks the to The Rock, will be profitable in the international markets.

Definitely not 90%, but I guess compared to some of the trash released recently, it's just nice to have a movie that doesn't suck, which is probably why it's getting such good audience scores. :)

Still 90% on RT user reviews.
Made 250 million so far, in like 10 days.

Shazam, in 2019 made 366 million across it's entire release frame.
It's already outgrossed Suicide Squad and WW 1984, albeit they had covid to deal with.

The Rock is built like a superhero, so all joking aside, who doesn't want to watch him don a cape! If I find some down time I may even watch it again at the cinema, even though its only a 7/10 for me! :D

I think some people forget how popular and a nice guy Dwayne Johnson is! He has a great work ethic and puts passion into everything he does. He deserves this success and I'm sure he will double down on the DCEU now. By all accounts he applied the pressure to get Henry Cavill back as Superman. Normally I would say that's hyperbole, but in this case I believe it.

/fanboy mode off.

Edit: My only regret is he chose DCEU over MCU. But i think that was the right move as I doubt he would get as much input in Marvel as he (claims) he had in his DC character.

Think I am the few that watched it twice. So glad Walter Hameda is out and James Gunn stepping into the role and heading in the direction "making movies what the fans want" and "listening to fans" as quoted from Dwayne. Reckon JG will finish GotG 3 before he fully into DCU.

He is listed as Exectuvie Produer, so I guess SOME input, but I think more the fact of how big he is, his name alone can ull a lot of weight. Im willing to believe he told the studio he wanted Cavill back because he knew how popular hes been..and more become since not being back as Supes, and he told them to make it happen.

His ex wife is Cavill's manager

More money not to pay the ex a smart move everyone gets paid :D
lol...true.
I just read though apparently Cavills new contract is mean to be pretty huge with DC, and is getting producer rights etc. Maybe him and Rock know what poeple are wanting, and now they have Gunn towards teh top, could be very good for all of them and the films.

Hopefully there is no more hbo/Warner/DC management shenanigans prior to us seeing a movie with both Dwayne and Henry in it. I'm guessing it wouldn't appear till at least 2024, but would not be surprised if supes and/or Black Adam filmed a few scenes for the upcoming already completed DC movies, even if it's just mid credits stuff.
