Because it's actually pretty annoying that something so obvious slipped past, it's something they could change really easily so they must've made it different on purpose.

Go back and play HL1 and you'll see. In Black Mesa you can't go left/right off them, trust me it's just entirely different. The fact that you don't remember this tells me a lot about your HL1 knowledge ;)

:edit: ERMAGUHD DOUBLEPOSTTT>

My HL1 knowledge is just fine that you very much! :D

I still can't see the hassle with the ladders. They're crappy, the original ladders were crappy. The jumping is crappy but then I guess it's more realistic - maybe that's what they were aiming for? It's not going to affect my enjoyment of the game but then i'm the kind of person who gets on with things. I'm not really a moaner.

I will probably install that update that someone posted to fix the bugs in the game though.

Still loving Black Mesa. Played it last night - ooooh man is it good. I had forgotten how atmospheric it is. They really don't make games like this anymore :(

I got past the blast pit first time as well ;) I must have been lucky because I swear I got killed on that multiple times in the original.

There is a massive backstory to half-life 1 - I'm quite dissapointed its not developed better in the game as it has some really nice twists and some quite deep philosophical stuff (things are actually different to what it seems in the game).

I suppose if they did it might upset Valve ?

I've been working through the game slowly, work permitting. Just nuked the tentacle monster with the rocket engine. Had a surreal moment when it killed the guard that tries to take it on with a handgun. His eyeball landed right at my feet!

I'm now at the bottom of the shaft and seem to be stuck. I remember in the original there was a passage under the water, but I cant seem to find it no matter how many times I've looked. Help? :(

I might try whacking it all on my SSD tonight to see if it helps the stutter and long load times. Also might try updating gfx drivers. Is it too much to expect running everything maxed @ 1920x1200 on an AMD HD5770 1gb? Sometimes my fps goes way down into the 20s.

As for game.... Well for me...over hyped slightly. But then...that's because I have played HL2 and expected great things from HL1/Black Mesa as have never played it. I mean yeah, it's awesome, totally awesome, but bits of it are annoying. The ladders are stupid and I never remember having this much trouble with them in HL2 or any other source game. The need for crouch jumping is also a silly thing imo, but then I am totally used to it from HL2/CS so it did not ruin it.

As for visuals (when it does run ok) I think it looks ace and a lot of work has gone into polishing little effects. The atmosphere and soundtrack compliments it well. The game play is good, although slightly linear. To be fair this is a 1998 game remade.

Overall for a free mod made by devs...fantastic. I am up to "on a rail" so not sure how far in that is.

Try restarting the game, I think there is a map change around there and I had a similar problem in a later level.

You go right down the bottom and then under a lip and back up (imagine a glass upside down underwater and you're swimming down inside the glass then out)
