Black Mesa Source

You don't have it on easy do you? :p Its the default setting in the options. Around that chapter I dropped down while wielding my SMG... I got raped so hard by a swarm of dogs that my quickload felt it. They came out of nowhere and surrounded me ><

No it's set to hard :p

Seems OK now I've got passed "On a Rail", still loving it :D

Man I dont remember this game being so hard! And I'm only playing on normal. Soldiers and snipers are raping me in CQ fights

Yes, I found myself backtracking for extra health, I thought more the fact that the effective weapons were slow to reload and enemy ai was very good.

I'm really stuck, I'm trying to fire a rocket at the hentai monster or something, and I've turned the two valves and now have no idea what I'm doing, I've used the giant spinny thing to hover up to a vent but they just lead me back to the beginning.

Just arrived at blast pit and i am damn impressed with this game so far, i would have happily paid £30 for this over a lot of the recent tosh ive bought.

You're turning on the fuel and power supplies to help deal with the giant hentai monster. You'll see big pipes running through the walls occasionally. Follow them. Once you've done fuel, you go back to the beginning and do power. Could be teh other way round.

I suppose if they did it might upset Valve ?

What I mean is HL1 has a massive amount of lore behind it which sadly isn't overly developed in the game itself tho hinted at obviously this mod is more or less an update of the original scenario so won't elaborate much on the lore side.

Its a shame tho if you read the backstory (not sure where I read it now) theres a fair amount of thought gone into it.

So what do we think about hours played ? I would say it took me about 24-30 hrs. I bet I did 4 hours in the "wired warehouse" (had to carry a little box to step over low trip beams) about the same in on those conveyors :( and a bug stopped me leaving the reactor level.

I must say maybe because this game is so different every level it stays fresh and exciting.
I would like to see a few more of the classics remade like RTCW.
Be very interested to hear what the younger generation of gamers thought about this one ? having been bought up on modern regenerating health and arrows showing you where to go etc.

Been a little while now but I feel good again about PC gaming, Thanks black Mesa team ;)

yup, it generally has always been this way though, a "unknown" makes a great game. original CS for instance was amazing, got taken over by valve and dumbed down (imo). BM:S is a great remake, and i sorta hope valve or whoever it is these days helps out with the finishing of it. Could make a great game.

Got past the laser room yesterday. Tense! Took me a few goes. Had to force myself to not keep autosaving on the way around which is one of the habits I've picked up on a lot of fps games recently!
This is definitely the best game I've played in a long time for SP experience. Imagine I'll move onto HL2 and addons after this.

Well I finished it, and I thought it was great. It brought Half Life up to scratch graphically, and did a very good job of retaining the 'feel' of the original.

For me it does highlight how great Half Life 2 (and the episodes) are though. While the original HL was a massive step forward when it was released, the level design and general 'flow' of the game do feel a little 'rough around the edges' in comparison to HL2. Still, it was great fun to play and I can't wait for the Xen levels :)

As for the crouch jumping and ladder issues: The ladders are a bit of a pain in all source engine games, and this just carries that over. The number of times I've had ladder related incidents in left4dead... As for crouch jumping, well it was in the original HL so it's right that it should be in Black Mesa. I did find it a little annoying in places though. Perhaps the jump height for regular jumps could have been increased a little so that crouch jump is not needed quite so often (for small jumps / debris etc). It didn't really take anything away from the game for me though, I just got into the habit of pressing crouch with every jump.

Also - I haven't played HL since before HL2 was released, but I still found that I remembered most of the maps, where to go and what to do. The human brain is amazing :D

I'm so stuck and annoyed, I've done the only thing I can do and spun the two valves, gone back to the hentai monster and now im just getting raped over and over and over trying to get back up, the controls are so bad because I just get stuck on ladder after ladder after ladder and get beat to death while trying to get off it. So lame.

Its not rocket science  The hardest part I found after switching the power on from the bottom level was getting up the first ladder because the *******s would grow bored of attacking my grenade location and keep randomly hitting me before I could get up. Once I got past the first ladder it was just a case of lobbing grenades back to the ground floor occasionally and crouch-walking to the top.
