Black Mesa

Fingers very much crossed. However, the chances of being to download this straight away once it is finally released are quite slim (I may have a 250mb connection by then though.)

The game itself looks terrible in parts though. It's become a joke and a parody of itself. The whole point was to play on a modern engine - Black Mesa is now taking longer than it took to make Half Life 2 after the first game came out. That's ridiculous.

How is that ridiculous? Half Life 2 had a fully functioning video game development studio working on it 24/7. Black Mesa is from a bunch of modders working on it voluntarily in their free time.

Wonder if it'll come out before the end of the world in December

Maybe it IS the end of the world :o

Bumping this thread. Pretty much the soundtrack is close to being released now the devs have previsoly said when the soundtrack is released its 2 weeks until the mod is out.

They also previously said that
* it would be released by the end of 2009
* It would be released, absolutely no question, by the end of 2010

So, I'd take any release comments with a pinch (or bucket) of salt, and believe it only when (if?) it is actually released.

Black Mesa? lol

Just checked outside my window and a pig flew past, just as I expected it would.

Black Mesa, *sigh* we're still be digging this thread up 2 years from now talking about a release date.

I think there has been a lot of unfair comments about this mod. A small group of people with probably a lot of other life commitments is going to take a long time to get something like this to release. It's not a 5 minute job even for commercial developers. As their offering it for free then they don’t owe us a dam thing. I think it's great they have stuck with it for so long and there’s been some exciting updates lately.

But they said that they had pretty much finished it other than Xen a couple of years ago

If they ever get it basically complete I think Valve should (somehow) help them, which would show (and encourage) the community that they still care about the people who mod using the source engine. After all, it was the community that helped push Half-Life and associated mods into the legendary status it has.

My thoughts too. Well said.
