Black Mesa

I seem to be the only person on earth who actually liked Xen in the original.

:D

Chuckle Brothers mugs all over Black Mesa, so had to buy this! I'm enjoying not remembering quite a lot of what happened near the start of HL...

You dreamt it.

It does actually look really good though as the dev's have put their own spin on it and expanded it. Apparently it will make up a third of the game!

An hour in Xen!? One measly little hour!? That explains why journos blasting through games asap to meet deadlines get game reviews so wrong sometimes. And why Xen is so underrated.

I vividly remember the joys and terrors of spending days, possibly a week in Xen first time round. I loved Xen – it was the first time I’d experienced zero-gravity and it was amazing. Really felt like another world, unlike most other games at the time (Quake 2 etc.). The Xen DM maps were brilliant too, really different to all the other maps.

They must have played the game on Easy mode too - those daredevil reviewers! I spent ages exploring Xen on Hard. And that monster, the Gonarch or whatever it was called (like a giant testicle with claws – I am not doing it justice here), I spent AGES on that flippin’ thing, until I realised it could not be killed at first (we didn’t just look the answer up online back then, we experimented. And failed. A lot). And don’t tell me that dome full of Controllers that you had to ascend was easy, because it was not when you were baked. That took a lot of attempts, although my platforming skills were somewhat befuddled at the time.

An hour in Xen, pfft! No wonder they don’t appreciate it, they haven’t even seen it all, let alone explored and experienced it all. I am really looking forward to this version of Xen.

Actually I might do a playthrough of Black Mesa again, nothing else has been tempting me since finished the Witcher 3 and Xcom 2.

Nooooooooooooo...

I now realise why I never completed the game. I just could not kill this thing no matter what I tried. I didn't realise that it could not be killed!!11
