Blackberry 9900/9930

It's a holster :p

It's kind of a Blackberry trademark having the holsters. They always used to have a magnet in them which meant the device knows when it's in the holster so that it can turn the screen off automatically and also allows you to set different profiles for in and out of holster.

Just don't slip things like train tickets or other things with weak mag strips (those hotel key cards as well) in the case as it'll kill them :p

Not sure if this is still the case with the 9900.

OR car Parking tickets. Had that SO MANY times where the BB has damaged the strip on the ticket.

It does have a magnet in, yes. I like how it turns the screen on and off, much like the iPad 2 smart cover (another idea Apple have stolen :p).

So far, I really like it. My SIM isn't activated yet so I can't do an awful lot with it phone-wise. I think I'll get it unlocked (if it isn't already) for the moment.

The device feels very premium, much like the iPhone 4. You can tell it's a quality bit of kit. It looks very wide when you actually hold it, but it's only very slightly wider than the iPhone.

The screen is superb, again it's very much like the iPhone 4 screen, extremely crisp and almost AMOLED-like colour reproduction. The keyboard is very nice, but will no doubt take some getting used to.

The phone itself is blazingly fast, I haven't seen a loading screen for anything yet (except the boot up one)! I think the software itself looks very nice and I really don't see why people are calling it 'ancient', Symbian feels ancient, this doesn't.

The camera seems fairly good considering it's EDoF but again, I've not really tested things properly yet. I'll post more later on.

I haven't really finished setting it up properly, nor have I delved into the features, but the first thing I checked is OCUK in the browser and it's VERY good! :p

There is much reading and fiddling to be done! :D

Its ancient because theres no widgets or any other fancy things on it lol...personally i think BB OS does what it does without minimum fuss....now get urself a playbook and become fully BB integrated lol.

Ermmm it should be the other way round fella;)....apple love stealing others ideas...barstewards:p

No, he was right.

Apple steal ideas, patent them, and then sue the people they stole them from :D

Widgets suck. I don't care for them at all. They're a gimmick.

Well it's my bday today and I was hoping Orange might have got it sorted by now so I'd have something to play with this evening :(
We got big issues. I would highly suggest if you want this handset asap you look into other means rather than our telesales/upgrades as you may be in for a delay. They might be able to tell you the official story, I certainly can't sorry.
Leaving Orange can be your birthday present to yourself! :p
While I appreciate what I'm saying is not good we would only delay a handsets launch if we felt it required it. No telco is in the business of delaying without good cause, it hurts us more than anything else.

I'm still 3 months from the end of my contract so looks like I'm in for a wait! Hopefully any issues will be ironed out by then anyway. I've been using my old-skool Nokia for years now, another month or two won't kill me...

Looks like i should have my 9900 by end of week as just spoke to handtec and they have said tomo they will have stock so should have mine by fri latest...not putting any money on it but if it arrives then great...

Spawn (& folks), what is Enterprise Activation and why does it ask me for a PIN when I press Set up Email in the setup wizard? :p

Hang on, is it because I've just stuck my O2 micro-SIM from my iPhone in there and it's not configured for it?

Enterprise Activation is when you link your BB up to a corporate BlackBerry server, known as a BES.

To setup a personal email account on a BlackBerry I've always used the operators BIS portal (BIS is used for emails and stuff when you don't have a BES).

For Vodafone it is here

http://www.mobileemail.vodafone.net/

You sign up there and it links your device to an email account, the email account should then just appear on your device. You don't have to add the account as such on the device itself.

You'll need a SIM with the BIS add on and be on your normal network for it to work though so don't think you can use your O2 sim for it.

Yep more or less...you need to get your network to enable the BIS onto your account...once thats done then u can set it up etc.

Enterprise is for companies and businesses running a blackberry enterprise service...consumers use BIS aka blackberry internet service or commonly known now as blackberry email.

Lovely, thanks guys. O2 are switching my bolt on to the BB one, they're good like that (oh how I hassle them). :p

Aaaaaaaaaaaand as I do all that, my Vodafone SIM gets activated. Typical!
