Blackberry 9900/9930

considering selling my gs2 to get one of these. was wondering for those who have one whats the camera like compared to iphone/gs2. is it decent enough for a phone?

The camera is simply 'okay'. It's not great like the SGS2 and it isn't as good as the iPhone 4 either, but with good lighting it takes a respectable picture. Very close up shots aren't possible though due to the fact it's EDoF.

also when receiving emails via the phone do they be as they are on a pc with all images and formating there or is it text only?

I believe they do, yes.

Anyway, I've been using a few select features of the phone this evening to test them out and the (actual, as in dialer etc) phone functionality is absolutely fantastic, the phone interface looks great too.

The web browser, while not up to the iPhone or Android standard is not very far behind at all, it's also extremely smooth and pages load quickly.

There are SO many email options and it seems quite complicated how it's setup. Can I set it to retrieve X amount of days worth from my Gmail inbox, at the moment it's only storing ones I've received since I set it up on the phone (if that makes sense)?

Edit: Never mind, sorted it all out now. :)

Probably because Orange are trying to put all there crap onto it that is why it is not working!
Like a lot of there phones over the years.

Funny how other networks have it sorted. Yet Orange are digging there heals.

I am sure RIM made it work. So why ( I am actually interested) do Orange need to change lots of things on it then?

We only destroy/"brand" Androids & Nokias really, most other phones survive to a large degree ;) I don't agree with it and trust me, every time i fill in a form regarding handsets I tell them to take it off (especially the "Maps Maps" problem on new androids - this is so so bad and I'm genuinely ashamed). but one of the things we don't abuse are BBs. We are a big big seller of BBs as a proportion of UK stock sold and RIM wouldn't like us breaking their image. The icon you see is usually a clever nifty trick we do with the SIM and bookmarks.

RIM work with us extensively to make sure UMA (which is the NUTS - I have no idea why marketing treat this as a second class feature) works perfectly among other nice extra bits and pieces, a delay is only ever called if it's required.

While I'm sorry I can't say any reasons etc...(I'm not 100% sure on the reason anyway tbh) please be rest assured that no one at Orange likes handsets delays because new tech is awesome to play with and we all want you guys to have it too. We are currently cracking the whip hard to keep SGS2/MonteCarlo stock in as it is :)

Well mine's out for delivery, hope they either leave it next door or the depot isn't too far away so I can grab it tomorrow morning

If I don't get it tomorrow then it'll be another week until I'm home again to get it as work away in the week :(

Have you guys had any luck trying to install dropbox and bbc ipayer?

They may not be compatible as its a new OS and therefore the devlopers of those apps need to re-code the apps for them to work.

a lot of apps wont be OS7 compatible yet but soon will be..as long as my bebuzz and berryweather works on OS7 then im good to go and funnily enough the dev's for both apps have made them OS7 compatible a week or so ago.

Canceled my ordered with CPWH and gone with MobilesDirect. Hopefully they approve my credit-check by today so I can expect delivery tomorrow, I don;t want to wait until Tuesday :(

Right, my O2 SIM is BlackBerry 'enabled' now so I've just done a wipe and have to set it all up again :p

Any essential apps anyone can recommend? I'll trawl through them all later anyway but maybe there are some must-haves.

Definitely must have is bebuzz...its not cheap but there is a free basic version which only allows you to set one led colour but bebuzz full gives you all sorts of funky colours for the led light...one app i cannot and will not be without on my Blackberry.

Another is berryweather, again paid but worth the money...gives you a forecast based on your location as to what the weather is like...you can have one or more different weather locations...not cheap but usually if you wait, you can find it on special.

Another is quicklaunch, not sure if the dev has made it OS7 compatible but its another app that i cannot live without on my Blackberry....allows you to make shortcuts to apps...heres a quick rundown on what it does: http://crackberry.com/quicklaunch-3-0-quick-review-loads-new-features

Those 3 are definitely my must have apps on the BB...i have others ie poynt, sixtools, filescout, blackberry protect, google sync, whatsapp, scoremobile, shazam, crackberry launcher, blackberry travel and a few others...some or most of them might not be OS7 compatible yet.

BeBuzz is the best money I have ever spent on an app. The amount of customization and setup you can do with it is amazing. I have different colour LEDs and reminders for all different things, fantastic, fantastic app.
