Crazy how we got to people hoping that the xx70ti card will only be £850....
*Sigh* I know right!, 4 years ago i'd have checked my self into a mental ward for such thoughts! But unfortunately this is where we are, and things wont go back to how it was.

If no one bought another GPU from all suppliers from here on out, would it change their marketing scheme's? would they reduce their prices back to where the market was reasonable?

Unfortunately every industry has been hit hard with manufacturing costs, tax hikes and what ever crap goes on politically around the world, its us the consumers who get hit with the big end of the stick.

Time to get my 2p jar out from the cupboard and start counting!

I had a 4090 on release day yes, I'm down as the first owner in Kaap's owner thread, crazy that it was over 2 years ago.

If 5090 MSRP is £2500 and stock is limited (which it always is) we'll see retailers pricing these at £3k+ the first few weeks, and they'll sell out as long as the stock is really tight. Once stock returns to normal, I think there'll be plenty of 5090 on the shelves with a £2500 MSRP, especially in this economic climate.

Oh yeah anywhere near 3K can **** right off. 2 - 2.5 and I'll investigate.
I suppose I shouldn't forget the fact that I could also sell my 4090 if I wanted to.

Can anyone hazard a guess as to when 5090 stock/pricing would stabilise following the initial launch wave?

I managed to get an AIB 4090 relatively easily in Dec 2022 (at MSRP from an official retailer), just under two months after launch. I actually successfully ordered a 4080 FE first in November, however I cancelled it the same day upon re-considering its price/value position relative to the 4090. It was a big contrast to the months of waiting to get a 3080.

PC gaming is now returning to enthusiast only after a decade in the mainstream. Maybe developers will see PC market as secondary from now on and concentrate on consoles…

I did say to the other half would be nice if I could spend £2k on a 5090 to treat myself if it wasn’t for 2 kids who need school uniforms, piano lessons and 11+ tuition which quickly ate that 2K away sadly.

Yes I started off in the PC world buying AMD and ATi products because the Intel and Nvidia products were so extortionately expensive. Looks like we're going full circle...

5080 would have been great with 24GB. But then I guess they need to try and bump as many people in to a 5090 as possible. It’s a tactic that has worked well so far.
That would make it too good for AI and other workloads aside games. It's a gaming card and they want to lock it down to gaming only (and very related tasks like streaming etc.). 5090+ are more of the enthusiast+work cards, hence they can charge through the nose for these as gamers aren't really the main target here. It was the same with 4090 - plenty of them sold but most not bought by gamers considering numbers on Steam etc.

We all have our responsibilities. You have to clothe your kids and I have to clothe Jensen. Those leather jackets don't buy themselves you know.
