512-bit 32GB VRAM, the 5080 being 16GB will be its limiting factor vs a 4090, even if it's got the extra GDDR7 mem bandwidth, many games now use and exceed 16GB VRAM at 4K, so this will be where it can't beat the 4090, meanwhile the 5090 appears to be just as massive a boost over the 5080 as to what the 4090 was over the original 4080.

The pricing will be the main thing here. Not expecting any miracles on a pricing revision to see lower prices...

Which games? So far everything works fine with my 12gb, let alone 16gb. I think only game I recall needing more was Harry Potter and that was due to frame generation needing the extra vram. But that was at 5120x2160 which is more than 4K.

I agree pricing will be the main thing. Will be interesting to see what they do.

If it's 2 slot water cooled like some AIB cards are, then there's no way it's just £2k lol given the ridiculous prices 4090 AIO cards were going for from AIBs, they were what £1900?

So the only thing to consider is that NV have engineered a new type of cooling system, that too carries a massive cost implication to the buyer.

If you sell your 4090 at a decent price I will drive down there and buy it. The key is, it needs to be a three figure sum :p:D

Looks like the RTX5080 is basically half an RTX5090. The AD103 was over half an AD102,so the RTX5080 is an even more cut down die.

If the RTX5080 is 400W as claimed, they have pushed the clocks as high as possible to justify the price. GDDR7 is also meant to be more efficient too,so they core is probably being a pushed a lot if that is the case.

Oh,well I suppose if you must max all settings things won't be getting cheaper anytime soon!

Will have to see what 5000 series brings with DLSS 4 (if it happens this gen) - isn't AI texture and object generation rumoured, I recall Jensen mentioning this earlier in the year.

Which won't mean much unless each tier gets a decent improvement this generation. The RTX4060,RTX4060TI and RTX4070 were frankly pathetic levels of improvement for the price. You still need that basic performance for all these new technologies to build off. If it's another case of 10 to 20% improvement or a bit more, then it will be another snorefest because Nvidia and AMD were busy rebranding upwards. It also limits the rate at which games can push things,if all the mainstream cards are useless.

We really need to be getting at least 30% to 40% performance uplifts at each tier.

Anyone else get the feeling the 5080 is gonna perform noticeably worse than the 4090?
Totally.
Let’s not forget that one of the initial 4080 was later “downgraded” to 4070.
So a cutdown 5080 to upsell 5090 is a (somehow) expected move, sadly.
Also, targeting 600W for 5090 and 400W for 4080, considering the issues with the connectors, may be risky. I haven’t heard much about melted connectors lately, but if the cards keep similar dimensions of 4000 series (most cards are very wide), or even wider cards, that may be an issue, a serious one, as I don’t see cases increasing dimensions to accompany and allow a safe bending of the cable.

If they cared, they'd have dropped 4080 prices to three figures 2 years after they release, but it's clear they don't see it that way.

Aren't the 4080 Supers not 3 figures? Pretty sure I have some go as low as £800 which I still found too expensive this late in the 4000 series life cycle.

Hold, I remember you HACO. You are the guy that always thinks cards will cost way more than they end up eventually costing.

I remember you getting completely wrong a few years ago :p

I was thinking more in terms of MSRP in USD being in 3 figures, but yeah it's £900-1000 now.

Yes indeed, I was wrong about 3080. Right about 1080, 2080 and 4080 :D
