Bladerunner 2 (Spoilers!)

Yeah usually 2-2.5x the budget to break even, and you get turds like the last Transformers film making over $500m :(

the original was a massive box office flop - since when has that been a measure of greatness? (^ like this guy says with TF @ $500m)

I have a feeling in 30 years 2049 will be on the same place as the original, in my mind it already surpasses it but to the public, who didn't embrace the original, they will see the error of their ways eventually to 2049 as they did with BR..

No they won't, BR 2049 is garbage compared to the original.

I can go into massive detail if you like...As when I get back I'm teaching the original Blade Runner for the new A level specification...

I've actually learned a great deal more about the original due to having to teach it. 2049 is so wafer thin I doubt it will on the new spec soon if at all ever :p

The thing is...The true BR fans hated it...and new audiences thought 2049 was so dull they avoided it once word of mouth hit. I struggle to see what people are seeing in 2049 tbh. I really am. Again Ive asked for opinions on Head of Police and K and his baseline and have been ignored as it doesn't fit with the remit of some people here :p

LUDICROUS!

I didn’t know you have a time machine.

You can teach what you like but your teaching will be against the tidal wave of critical acclaim. Sure you have your opinions but I and many many many many others disagree and I am sure many of your students will too.

To me it would be like you teaching why 2001 Space odyssey is a bad film, or why Hitchcock was a bad filmmaker or the Godfather is a bad film (yes I went there).

I would think you are off your rocker and might need to get back on your meds!

What an elitist attitude. I've seen Blade runner (original) about 20 times over the years. People like Mark Kermode who consider it one of the best films of all time love the sequel enough to put it in his top 10 of the year.

He rated it at number 8 and kermode is full of it half the time...he's gone down hill imo...he must be getting too many red carpet invites so he wants to protect that...:p

Totally! And arguably the BIGGEST BR fan made the movie too.

Actually funny easyrider brought up the subjects that critics like him were paid by the studio or incentivised to say good things about the movie and he made a comment about this in either last week or the week before on the podcast. The gist of it is that he was pretty much offended at the accusation and people are fine to have their opinion about a movie as they are entitled to but it is insulting to even think he was somehow influenced by the studio for his review.

I'll be watching the original and then the sequel. It will be interesting what their reactions are to both.

I'll change Garbage to Mediocre then. :p

eh? you talka no sensea

I have the original dvd, the 5 disc dvd box set and the blu ray final cut, the Westwood Studios pc game (and again on steam !) and its my favourite film of all time ! - am I not a "true fan" because I like 2049?

even if you hate the script and the acting its a roger deakins masterpiece at the very minimum

I think people just cant be bothered to fight minor plot points against your contrarian ways :D
but to answer your point - Joshi was just happy that K had killed the child for her, also she seems to have feelings / lust towards K

I cant say its better than the original (it could never be) but for an unwanted sequel it was excellent - and actually raised some good questions / thoughts in its own right

Did anyone who had seen the original and watched BR2049 then regret watching it ? (Pandoras box)

I am late to the party, but after having watched (so far) the first five minutes, there seems a lack of complete respect and exploitation of the first film, by plagiarizing some of the important ideas/threads and just baggaging them in the few initial scenes, or is that a legitimate/necessary catchup, standing on the shoulders of forefathers. ? .... that's Hollowood I guess.

Have heard Mr Kermode using terminology of cannot unwatch particular films, I am wondering if watching BR2049 will itself diminish the original chef d'oeuvre, on further viewings.

I purposely rewatched the original (final cut) the week before watching 2049, and felt 2049 built upon the original and not rip it off, it is a sequel after all and a continuation of the story.
