Bladerunner 2 (Spoilers!)

"Because we never lie" (We = nexus 8s)

When Luv confronts Joshi she comes out with this. Joshi is convinced that K has done what he was told because she sees him as a "good boy", without a soul, who would never lie. Even though she knows he's off baseline she doesn't believe he could do something so human as to lie. Luv on the other hand sees her naivety and knows they can lie, because she is allowed to be unstable by Wallace and all that goes with it - thus carries on the chase.

I haven't got a 4K TV :(

How can you judge a film on the first 5 minutes? And why would you stop it, and inturrupt the flow, to comment on the internet?
rarely watch a film in one sitting; but started watching, and there was an interruption, so contemplated whether to watch the rest;

Thought they should be more reverential to the original at the start, folks who had seen it know the history, and they could have left more on the plate for any newcomers, but Hollywood desire to have some kind of action sequence at the start is formulaic now.
(not suggesting I would walk out in the cinema for this - but had read that some of the USA cinemas you get your money back if you do.)

Maybe need to start a GD thread on which films you can assess from first 5 minutes

That means you never go to the cinema.

Sorry, your opinion is irrelevant if you only watch a film for the first 5mins.

Because all your concerns may have been answered in the 6th minute, your impatience is your lost.

Did anyone who had seen the original and watched BR2049 then regret watching it ? (Pandoras box)

I have a twist on the answer to the question. My biggest problem between the two is still the major conceptual difference of who the replicants were/are between original BR and BR2049. I voiced this concern several times in this thread so others are by now familiar (and probably sick of it) but I'll run it out one more time. Because I come from cinematic/VHS "Blade Runner", the pre-Final Cut "Blade Runner" - to my generation of fandom viewers it was clear that replicants were robots with skin "wrapper" and added lab grown bio gear. Kind of like terminator cross with Bishop from Alien - plastic/synthetic inside, fully programmable petri dish grown biological sensor elements outside - skin, eyes, etc. We know so, because a) we've seen prototypes in original BR b) there was literally a screen with text that told us so at the beginning of the cinematic/VHS edition c) book tells us of artificial animals in detail. So, as an answer to your "regret of watching BR2049" question - I kind of, in a weird way, regret watching/knowing the original pre-final cut BR, because now my BR universe is broken - I can't stop thinking about ageing replicants of BR2049 and it breaks the immersion if not the whole universum for me - it punches hole in BR because what type of ageing biological entity would Teddy Bear from J.F. Sebastian's prototype den be, right?

after having watched (so far) the first five minutes, there seems a lack of complete respect and exploitation of the first film, by plagiarizing some of the important ideas/threads and just baggaging them in the few initial scenes, or is that a legitimate/necessary catchup, standing on the shoulders of forefathers. ? .... that's Hollowood I guess.

Have heard Mr Kermode using terminology of cannot unwatch particular films, I am wondering if watching BR2049 will itself diminish the original chef d'oeuvre, on further viewings.

I really hope this was a joke, because if not it's one of the most stupid things I've ever read. I don't give a * if you were Ridley Scott himself - you can not form an opinion of a nearly 3 hour film based on 5 minutes. Lack of respect and plagarising ideas? You'd not even seen enough of the movie to form a qualified opinion! Trying to act all high and mighty like you're some film connoisseur after watching 5 minutes of something. Give. Me. A Break.

Yeah agree, I’ll pull a film apart when I’ve seen it . Or I’ll give up and move on like I did with Atomic Blonde

But watching 5 mins of a film and having an opinion is ludicrous lol

neither of you has had the conviction to turn off a film after 5minutes ? (or maybe pre-filtered with imdb) - life is too short - chacun à son goût
I wish I had done that for Alien Covenant, but Atomic Blonde had an enticing start.

Yes, but we don't judge the entirety of it.

I even walked out of the Cinema once, but l didn't make a conclusive opinion of it. I simply said it wasn't for me.

I walked out of Mindhorn earlier in the week after 25mins.

The humour is just isn't me.

Stopping something early because you dislike it, and pretending to have a valid opinion of what a film is like after watching like 3% of it aren't exactly the same thing. I'd have no problem if you said you didn't like the look of it and didn't watch the rest, but don't even try and pretend you saw enough of it for a valid comparison to the first film.

PS. Your French proverbs don't make you any smarter.

I have the conviction and my own personal opinion and don't need IMDB to support my insecurities like you.

Plus my opinion is based on the fact I have watched it. You can't form an opinion as you never watched it. So before you respond and get into discussion with the likes of me ...watch the film , don't try to be clever and then I can destroy you at will will with my intellect, witt and devasting knowledge in the process of film making.

The last few pages of this thread pretty much sum up why I can't stand the majority of the OG BR fans xD

They adopt this really weird sense of smug superiority from it, a lot like Tool fans in fact. They're convinced that the original is perfect in every conceivable way and that anyone who suggests otherwise is a philistine who doesn't understand the 'true art of filmmaking'.

The original is poorly placed, immeasurably slow at times and ABSOLUTELY not for everyone, but I ******* love it regardless.

I'll also add that you literally can't have an opinion on a film after just 5 minutes. It's like seeing just 1 square inch of a painting. Sorry dude xD

no way in hell BR is perfect

Its my favourite film but I don't ever recommend it to people, I don't want them to watch it and then tell me its rubbish :D

Pretty much this. I can totally see why some people wouldn't like BR. Every time I watch it, every couple of years, I fall more in love with it though
