Blue Dragon Official Thread

I can not wait..I loved the demo, I don't think it really plays like FF too much, it's the fact that it's a turn based RPG that make people think it's a rip! There are other turn based RPGS you know!

Indeed, going by that logic, FF was a rip of Dragon Quest.

Well it got 9/10 in the Official Xbox 360 Magazine and one thing they did like was the sound/music so I think you should be OK there.

I never trust Edge reviews too much, they've marked many games I love low, I think they base too much on Innovation where sometimes they should just accept a good game.

Now a question :

Anyone know the approx playtime for the game, I'm guessing 40+ hours ?

Edge dont mark low. They mark properly. An average game would get 5/10, where other magazines would give that 70%. A game of 6 or above in Edge is considered good.

Found some scores from some reviews they all seem good apart from the cowboy magazine edge:
Official Xbox Magazine UK 9 / 10
Electronic Gaming Monthly 6.8 / 10
Edge Magazine UK 6 / 10
Games Master UK 86 / 100
Play Magazine 9 / 10
Official Xbox Magazine 8.5 / 10
360 Gamer Magazine UK 9 / 10
gamesTM 9 / 10

played both FF and Dragon Quest on PS2

i thought Dragon Quest was very boring. Big cutesy colourful graphics and super simplistic interface and environment. (imo aimed at the under 10 year old age market)

Wandering round the big open landscape was a a bit boring as well because there are way too many random battles and nothing in the landscapes except the occasional chest aaarghhh.

The battle scenes are alright but i could not stand the music.

All in all FF seemed more mature and had more going for it. Story wise they were both pretty good.

edit: Blue Dragon coming to PS3?

A good story really does make or break an RPG for me. It's the most important feature by far.

ahh looks like an xbox360 exclusive. Have to admit it looks pretty good. Very good graphics, lots of customizable options and upgrading character options. Seems very very similar to FF series. Even the menu and battle systems seemed quite similar. (not saying thats a bad thing lol)

Yeah I agree, generally speaking FF is a bit better. But Dragon Quest came first, and heavily influenced the first FF game.

Finally got round to playing the demo.

For a while I wasn't sure what to make of some elements of the game. Because I've played the FF line of games my immediate thoughts are that this is very similar, right down to the music.

Haven't quite warmed to the style of the characters yet but I'm sure that would change if I knew the story proper and had a backdrop for what I was playing.

Some of the design is obviously very good. Particularly liked the big robot boss who contained a load of minions inside.

The battle system wasn't immediately obvious in terms of how the turns worked but it soon made sense, I like the element of power/time-taken where you can hold down the button to decide where the player will take their turn in exchange for extra power.

There seems to be a lot in there to think about, such as the 'magic sword' abilities which I didn't really touch, and how the shadow/summons can be tuned up in the options, didn't get a chance to figure that out. Didn't see any weapons/armour lying about or in the menus?

I think I'll be getting this. I thought it was fun but I'm hoping it will prove to be a great game, I could really do with another epic RPG for a console these days.

god, i'm looking forward to this game, been waiting for it for ages, haven't even pre ordered yet though, probably just go to the place where they post out pre orders early usually.

it's going to be an expensive run up to xmas!
