Blueyonder/Telewest speed upgrades

Do any of you know whether Telewest allow two BB connections to the same property? Given that the 4mb service is dropping to £25, for those on it now paying £50 if you really wanted more upload speed you could ask for another 4mb connection to be installed giving you combined 8mb down and 768k up for the same £50 as you're paying now?
Given that dual WAN routers are cheap/common these days it could be done, right?

i dont think they`ll do it,someone has done it before tho if i can remember correctly.

i think he was using his neighbours connection to do it tho.

BY will not be increasing the upload speeds anytime soon, the reason....to allow the service to remain uncapped. Increasing the upload speed would see LOADS of people running private web servers and game servers that will have a dramatic effect on the performance of the network as a whole due to the vastly increased traffic.

As for this speed increase well done to them, I really dont see any other Broadband provider who can rival this service, all other services that are supplied by telephone line are NEVER guaranteed to provide the stated speeds as is all depandant on distance from telephone exchange if you check a lot (and i mean A LOT) of areas in the UK currently you can still only be serviced with 512k via a telephone line.

So I say Blueyonder and fiber optics for the win! :D

LOL.... :D I am amazed that people are complaining about the "slow speeds". So how many other countries in the world are actually ahead of us now? UK must be getting pretty high up that list of Max Speeds and Average Speeds.

And if they have even got broadband down to Devon.... we must have covered a huge percentage of the UK now. :D

I read something the other day saying how we are now way ahead of the USA with speeds and access.

I remember running a company back in 2000 with our webserver sitting on a hugly expensive 256/256 fibre connection. And we thought that was fast!! Now I have much more than that in my own house for less that £20 per month.

Anyone who complains should be restriced to Prestel on a 300 baud acoustic modem. heheheh.... :D

On the global scale of thigns we are still in the dark ages lol

Show me a chart. Facts. Not just your childish reactions. (I have just been reading this thread and you are not exactly the best person to respond here. I am looking for answers, not negative responses.)

I am sure I read that we are now well into the top ten in Europe, whereas a few years back we were basically bottom of the league.

WT* are you talking about ? For one my last posts was facts.

In response to your OUTBURST, we are indeed pretty low in the overall view of things. you dont need charts, al lyou need is to speak to people in other countrys to know where we stand. oh, and by me saying we are in the dark ages when compared to other countrys im not talking Blueyonder specific, so please do control yourself.

To put thngs into perspective, my swedish buddy has a 24/8 meg fibre line that he pays £32 a monthe for. And i doubt thats the best he can get over there.

No one is trying to say that the UK is at the top of the pile.

Scandinavia and certain Asian countries do have better internet connections but even those are not available to a lot of the population.

There are plenty of countries which we are ahead of, so on a global scale we are not in the dark ages.

I honestly don't know what your motivation for posting all this crap is, be quiet.

Really? What are your reasons for this assumption?

I reckon we're pretty competitive with the majority of countries now. I don't think there are many other countries which offer much higher speeds than we have (8-10mb) at the prices we have (£30-35) with no usage caps. In addition the percentage of the population who now have access to broadband of some description is in the high 90s I believe.

Hi wush - this is what I thought. A small number of countries have small areas where access can be faster. But even though BT is limited by what it can do due to the competition rules from Offcom, it seems to be getting the job done.

And coversations about 8Mbps / 10Mbps / 24Mbps seem stunning to me. These speeds used to be office network speeds back in the 90's.... and now our ISPs are pumping data into us at that speed. Nice :D

(There will always be some people who want to throw their toys out of the pram. No matter how good them toys may be. But it is easy to ignore them.... )

The won't do it but it's for billing reasons more than technical ones. They limit the number of accounts to one per address and the number of HSI connections to one per account.

There are obviously blocks of flats where there are multiple accounts and I've heard accounts of people obtaining two separate accounts, each with its own HSI connection, by "sub-dividing" their address into flat numbers :)

"The UK now has the most extensive broadband availability of the G7 nations.

There are currently 96 per cent of households with access to the high-speed internet and more than six million subscribers."

Good link, but i think it all depends on what you class as broadband ? Its good that so many of the population has access to a faster than 56k connection.

Onm mcallans post im thinking he was meaning technology terms, and in tech terms we are pretty far behind ?

I honestly don't know what your motivation for posting all this crap is, be quiet.

Look a don has asked to stop the nonsense! wich i have. now id apreciate it if you would stop the spouting of rubbish aswell.

Sweden does not constitude the rest of the world.

You said that on a global scale we're in the dark ages. This intimates that the average broadband provision globally is far in advance of what we have here, which is simply not the case.

Also an asumption.

Of course if you compare outselfs to countrys that dont have BB then we will be infront no doubt.

But as the UK and a leader in many things wouldnt you want to compare yourself to other top nations ? or shall we compare it to say india? pakistan? korea? who also happen to have superior technology in relation to this thread.

Back to topic.

What would be the reasons for BY not to introduce a wider range or packages? does uplaod stream really cost them that much ? has nyone got some specifics on upstream bandwith and the cost it costs isps ?

Again: not being the absolute best does not mean we're in the dark ages.

Please name all of these top nations which are way ahead of us.
