BMW and M Power Owners

The green M4 sounded nice from the outside, but the M3 didn't from the inside. But as discussed, I guess that's what happens with Turbo'd 6s. What happened to the induction noise like on the CSL?
The M3 sounded OK when I nailed it in 3rd, but that's about it really. Still really flat and uninspiring.

Overly loud induction noises cause issues on the drive by noise testing so have also gone.

Not recently, the 7 series has always been massively more than a 5 series which itself is a considerable hike over a 3 series.

Despite generally having the same mechanical and electrical systems..
Ridiculous isn't it?

Especially given the e38 7 is more or less the same as an e39 5 mechanically at least.

Shame, for a more reasonable price I'd have gone for it without hesitation.

I could get a pcp on a 3 series for not much more!

Inside....ASD init.....

I had to turn ASD off on mine. Exhaust flaps open though do help the sound. Coming from the glorious E92 M3 V8 to this 3L twin turbo, the sound is probably the biggest downgrade.

The HK sounds a little better on the new one, the tech gimmicks are awesome: heads up display / speed limit display and reversing cam!

I am pretty sure this M3 is faster than my last one, just not as awesome noise wise. Point to point it still can be quite good fun.

Oof. Just got a quote on my 6 series for when the warranty runs out. £1100!

It was worse with windows down :(
Couldn't find any tunnels; a narrow village street was the best I could find :p

Either way, the car itself was a complete masterpiece in the handling/ride/driving stakes. Just a pity about the noise innit.
Try a E92

stick a decent exhaust system on and they sound alright!

So, just revisiting this RTTI stuff, is there a difference across the variations of iDrive? My RTTI is pretty much flawless at all roads (Motorway, A and B) and has actually, albeit twice, given me diversion info that Waze didn't even know about.

IIRC reading something that it was based on Google infrastructure with a BMW P2P overlay to enhance it's accuracy.

It should be the same feed regardless of your version of iDrive, IIRC.

See that just sounds like the multitude cars out there that have mods installed. Loud exhaust with the meat of the sound being all muffled. That's what I don't like. There's no mechanical (as in, metal on metal) noise to the whole thing which gives it something unique. If you closed your eyes and watched that video, you'd be hard pressed to guess what car or engine you were hearing. The exhaust overpowers the engine sound, when you should be able to hear both.

It's got to be N/A for me. Maybe one day I'll have gone mad and dropped an S65 in the E46 :D

Agreed, na for me all the way! I love the way e46 m3 sounds or the V8 of e92.

They do sound the same, probably due to the sound generated on gear change... All latest amgs, s/rs and m cars have that same sharty sound at the gear change..
