BMW and M Power Owners

Don't understand how they get away with this. You literally have to fill everything in and get ready to book, before they show what the true cost is.

No it doesn't. Services are 2, 4, 6, 8 etc. Brake fluid is 3, 5, 7, 9 etc.
I am seriously considering cancelling the BMW warranty and doing my own thing. Get different pads and fluid fitted, android auto box, change the suspension etc with no stress.

However sods law states that the gearbox will **** itself if I cancel.

So downgrade it to Driveline only?

So, the wife's 1 series is showing on the dash that the front brake pads need to be replaced in around 1000 miles. It was due its MOT before the end of this month so I thought I'd try and get it through the MOT and sort the brakes out when the weather's a little less... crap. I took it for its MOT this morning expecting an advisory at best on the brakes, but got nothing at all. I even asked the tester specifically, are the front brakes ok? To which he replied, yep absolutely fine, loads left in them.

How accurate are the wear sensors, generally? Is it going to show in the car's history if I leave them passed their 'suggested' date. The car has only done 16k miles on its original brakes - that seems like a very short lifetime if the pads really are wearing thin, especially bearing in mind it's only driven in town for shopping, school runs etc. Not like she's ragging it around Brands every other weekend.

The counter you are seeing is simply guessing when the brake pads will need to be replaced. The wear sensor is something different! It's not particularly clear unfortunately.

The wear sensor is, AFAIK anyway, built into the pads. It's a thin wire which wears away once exposed and a small current is passed through it. Once it's worn away the car reports no current flowing. The OBC is based on usage, time and mileage.

The estimate is useless. Ignore it. What's more important is getting a mm reading and monitoring that.

When the wear sensor trips it will immediately say you have around 3,000 miles left and brake service will turn orange.

Finally found an M5 to have a nosey around. It's gigantic and looks alright TBH, but my god are there some questionable plastics on the inside

Also what the **** is the deal with this ****** gloss black plastic everywhere?! Nightmare. Still wouldn't say no if I was offered one :p

I think the new ones are even worse.
My f90 comp has some cheaper plastics but better looking switches etc

The switchgear on the new G90 is disappointing. Shame that BMW is cost-cutting in these departments, especially on a car that is well north of £100k

I had a look around a Marina Bay Blue one while mine was in for an MOT and have to say they do look better in the flesh but as you say, they are huge. Not a car for me

I was deciding between one and an M4, and I went with the M4 (G82).

I found the new M5 just too gigantic, it looks like a boat - I also didn't like the interior, felt too over the top for me.. I almost went with an almost new F90 M5 (had less than 1000 miles on the clock) but i preferred the M4.

I think the F90 M5 is definitley the one to get, it drives better - feels better inside and looks way better.

I'm looking to move mine on. But what car can do what the M5Comp can do??

What car can I fill up with enough stuff for a 5 week Euro road trip, With camera gear Clothes......The Wife's Shoes....Coolbox...

So I've been looking into Mclaren 570's then 600LT then 720s Spider.... Seems budget creep is real.
I've always wanted a 991 Turbo S, and thats probably the closest to the M5C with regards to being mental but can also carry a decent amount of Luggage. But I feel like I need a car with some occasion.
Maybe a Portofino Roma spider.... Nope.. Budget isn't that big...

could get a lot of shoes in an Audi RS6 ?
Always loved the look and sound of the RS6's but everytime i walk into a dealer I seem to get the salesman that can't be bothered, Or looks down on everyone. Whereas The BMW dealer either local or up in Glasgow have been fantastic

The Audi dealer in Cheltenham is possibly one of the most pretentious places I’ve ever visited. A look of how dare you step foot in here as soon as I went in, and it went downhill when I asked about the new RS3. Swindon Ferrari were far more welcoming even when I said I just wanted to look at cars I can’t afford. Cotswold BMW pretty much let me drive what I want!
