BMW and M Power Owners

My 530i had a 5 speed manual gearbox so isn't at all comparable. It was about 2800.

You'll need to compare a 2013 535i with a 2013 530i to get a like for like comparison. I'd be amazed it they were much different?

Forgot they put the NA in the F10. Looks like 535i is at 84 mph at 2k and the 530i 2.4k closer than I thought it would be but the same as driving in 7th rather than 8th on the 535i.

The 530i must struggle accelerating at those revs I expect it would drop a gear or two when wanting to pick up speed when the 535i will stay in 8th

Turbos don't increase fuel efficiency, they allow for smaller engines which is what then increases fuel efficiency. There is no reason to expect fuel efficiency savings from an engine of the same size because it has turbos unless it's downsized too.

So for example a 2017 330i is more efficient than a 2007 330i because the former engines turbo has allowed it to be reduced in size whilst retaining the same power.

Real world fuel economy doesn't seem to have improved much, I remember hitting 40 on a run on my 2001 530i. 10% better from a far more modern direct injection engine highlights how far we've not really come :(

But you seem to be missing the part where the extra 10% fuel economy comes with an extra ~40% power too. Assuming your still taking this 10% extra from the likes of a 135/140i / 335/340i or 535/540i. I would say that is a decent enough improvement to get 100 BHP or so plus a 10% fuel saving.

Sure, the fuel saving on it's own wouldn't be such a big thing. But if you are going to focus solely on fuel efficiency, then you should perhaps pick examples with similar power outputs between the generations. So maybe against a 328i or something?

I'm probably (most likely) different to most people on here, but I generally judge such cars as how good fuel economy they get vs power / speed of the vehicle. Not just one or the other. Which is why I generally dislike 6 cylinder, non turbocharged petrol engines (obviously the likes of Porsches are different animals here). V8's generally produce the power to be worth the hit in fuel economy, where diesels have come so far, I find the same cant be said for 6 cylinder, 3.0 Litre motors, in general.

I get that. But you can't just go comparing fuel economy in isolation, when there is such a massive power advantage to be had along side it. If you were considering ONLY fuel economy, you wouldn't be considering a 6 cylinder petrol at all.

Me too, but also had the unfortunate luck that it was a diesel as well, bad cars really. Not genuinely sporty unless you get the M version.
What do you mean by "M version"? M-Sport? M5?

I would argue that a 530i M Sport is no more "sporty" than a 530i SE. Yes, it's got bigger flashier wheels and stiffer suspension, but that doesn't make it "sporty", does it? It's basically all cosmetic...

DON'T LET THE GENERAL PUBLIC GET HOLD OF THIS INFORMATION YOU MONSTER!

Hello all,

My 2-series Active Tourer is coming up to three years old in September. I bought it in September last year as an Approved Used. I've now been offered my free end of warranty check. Having never been offered anything like this before from another manufacturer, is there any sage advice people would give?

Also, given its now entering a period without warranty, what are the general tips for the next few years? Is the BMW warranty worth considering? The cars done 21,000 miles to date, is petrol and will cover about 8-10,000 miles annually going forward.

Thanks for any advice.

Tom
