I just don't understand why you want to do the walnut blasting? It's very popular in the 135i but that has a completely different engine and it's the direct injection fuel system on that engine that causes the issues that walnut blasting can alleviate.

What is it you think it will do with yours? You have an N52 engine which is not direct injection?

Conventional injection does indeed clean the backside of the valves but it doesnt totally eliminate blowby carbon, especially with crap smarket petrol, and this lump has done miles....many miles. Direct injection just needs it MUCH more.

The base fuel is the same, the additives are not. My local ASDA is particularly bad, made my impreza run like ass....
Therefore crap.

ASDA do not sell super unleaded fuel and the Impreza requires higher octane fuel. It ran badly because you used the wrong fuel not because it was ASDA fuel.

Even compared to the equivalent from the BP round the corner? Like for like,it wasnt good.

Your comment also only applies to turbo models.....

Because turbo models are by far the most sensitive to octane rating.

I ran my 530i to almost 210,000 miles on mostly supermarket super unleaded and without the need for walnuts.

Mine got a full detail on fri. Still shows up light scratches and swirls under bright light so gonna give it a proper polish soon methinks

This is why no matter how nice it was any car in carbon black was just off my shortlist. It's just too much of a pain to keep it pristine.

The only thing that helps is ceramic coating after a full detail. But it isn't 100% protection!

It won't be long before the ceramic coating captures some light scratches and stuff from daily use that other paint colours would otherwise hide.

But not on Carbon Black...

I'd say Carbon Black is worse than black for this sort of nuisance. It's just the nature of the colour shows everything under strong light sources.

Carbon Black is a nightmare to keep clean but I can just about manage it with a large arsenal of products and regular careful washing. :o

It's sapphire here but yeah, a complete pain. When it's clean and the sun hits it though...looks awesome!

Think when it comes to replacing it I'll be looking for something other than black or white!

Maybe pure metal silver...
