BMW and M Power Owners

Quick question for you guys. My auc warranty expired sometime this month but I've now got the BMW warranty on the car. I had the car in for some warranty work while it was covered by the auc, however they had to order a part in which didn't arrive till after my auc warranty had expired. I was assured by the salesman that it was covered and I shouldn't have to pay anything, however another salesman rang today saying the new warranty required an excess. I've rung back but missed the guy, I'm guessing it's just crossed wires because otherwise I'll have to find another bmw garage. The part they changed was the pump for the airbag in the seat.

There's no question in your post, but I think you meant to ask should you have a to pay an excess. I would say no, since this is to complete a job undertaken under the original warranty.

So car arrived today at my local dealer and went to briefly see it. (e89 z4 35i)

Turns out one of the rims is cracked, so being that they were not the originals they are ordering in 4 426s to replace them. Scratch on front bumper which they will sort out.

What struck me as odd was the fact that there's a 2 year service interval! Salesman said that's common with BMWs. Is that true? Should I be worried? Also stamp for this year's service was not in the book although idrive said service due 2021 which probably means it was done. I have asked for it to be stamped.

Another observation is that I think in the idrive it said oil change in 2020, which makes me think that the oil should be changed every year? If so, there's only a stamp every 2 years in the book. A bit confused to be honest, if anyone can shed some light into what the maintenance schedule is it would be appreciated.

Thank you, the other stuff should be sorted by Friday and pending a more thorough check and drive and all being well I should have the car in my possession Friday!:D

I will switch to a more frequent oil change though, at least once a year/5k miles.

I dunno, I guess habit? I've always done a service/oil change on my cars at least once a year.

Being a relatively high performance turbocharged engine, I'd imagine the quality of the oil would deteriorate a bit quicker.

I've also found this https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=868293 . They apparently revised the interval to once a year/10,000 miles for models built post July 2013. Considering the engine is the same, for both pre and post 2013 E89 35i models, I'd be inclined to follow that as well.

I would just follow the service requirements that the car flags up to you; as long as you are using good quality LL04 oil it will be fine. If you do wish to change oil on an 'interim' basis every year or 5k , personally I would DIY it (or use a cheap local garage if you can't be bothered with the faff) and just keep a record of the work and receipts separately.

NB, don't go resetting service counters or you will draw forwards the rest of the schedule such as spark plugs.

I ended up having a big problem with Allianz (BMW Insured Warranty provider) on an N55-engined car: I had an interim oil change and the independent garage reset the service counter. Then, when the car went pop a few months later after the next scheduled service, BMW Insured Warranty refused a payout because in their eyes the service schedule hadn't been adhered to by the book. I had to get the Ombudsman and BMW UK involved to fight a case against Allianz and it took a year for me to get my costs plus interest refunded. If anyone's that interested in what happened I can post the link to the case on the Ombudsman website.
