BMW and M Power Owners

I'd likely go this route over a 3rd party remap, I drove a 540i with the power kit and it was noticeably quicker than the stock one. I'd not be surprised if they are putting out more than the power gains they quote. Interestingly they change the torque converter on the 5 series.

I'm surprised it actually felt that much different (if the power figure is accurate). I'm more interested in the noise from the M Performance exhaust than I am the power increase if I'm honest.

I think that's a lot to do with there being somewhere around 100 ish 2Ls for every 3L. The chains seem to last a little longer in the 3L aswell issues normally start at 120-140k plus likely due to the bigger engine spending more time at lower RPMs
Don’t say that, I have a 2011 X3 3.0 which is at 122/3k. I knew I should have bought an ML with a nice reliable merc engine in it :p

I'd change the chain for piece of mind. I don't think it would be that expensive a job once the gearbox is off it's pretty straight forward, two of us manged it on my friend's drive with a lift it would have been much easier. (I sold him the car so felt bad about it thought I had better help him !)

Thanks for the warning (I think!) but I wouldn’t have the know how to do it myself, and with it running well I can’t be bothered with sending it in to a garage to be honest. If it goes it goes, I’ll deal with it reactively at the time, it’s part and parcel when chancing it with a car like this. If I didn’t have the appetite for the chance of the odd failure here and there I’d not buy cars like this :)

If it chatters on cold startup then change it, if not, fear ye not.

Well that wasn't the plan...I appear to have just bought a X3M Competition in Sapphire Black with Adelaide Grey leather comfort pack and a few other options.

Boo. Should’ve got blue or red. What did you originally go out to purchase? Or perhaps just look at?

I'd ordered an RS4 through the Alphadrive scheme but they were being bloody useless so started looking at other stuff and got a really good deal on this so went for it.

Any suggestions? 500+ bhp, decent spec, decent handling, room for 3 teenage kids and 2 dogs, available to buy and deliver now and at the price I've paid for it?

What kind of retard requirement is 500+ bhp? However you probably could have picked up a rr sport svr

who said it was a requirement, its a statement on what the car I've bought has...so what would one suggest I should have bought instead?

You said it was. In your post. Above. Look;

Could have gone for a nice m340i estate and had change left over, the RR sport SVR I suggested if you really need that 500+ bhp (at a guess you could pick up a 2017/2018 model so available right now), one of the Porsche SUV's which are very robustly reviewed. Also the X3M is panned for its handling so not sure where you've pulled that from! Could have even gone full fat RR of some flavour.

What's with all the aggression? Seems like a nice enough car and crucially the actual base car is fairly decent, not sure the same can be said for the RR Sport.

M340i Estate, no stock available of a decent spec and currently not in production wouldn't see a car this side of christmas from what I've been told, RR Sport SVR from 2017-2018 so limited warranty and already 2-3 years old, new is significantly more than the X3M has cost, Porsche Macan GTS or Turbo? Significantly more for an equivalent spec and don't like particularly like like styling. RR I don't feel like driving something the size of a small planet around really...and new pricing is a little outside my budget.

Some of the reviewers don't like the X3M ride, which is always subjective, but equally a lot of owners get on with it. I don't mind it, but if I don't like it I can add the MSS springs to it from Evolve. I did look at a lot of other cars and decided this was, for the money and it being brand new, the best deal I could get.

It's universally panned for its poor handling and ride quality with the common question being why have they made it worse than the X3?
