BMW and M Power Owners

Yep, and the LCI 30i will be better still, with the more efficient gearbox and engine :)

You don’t really need any quicker than ~6s to
60.

4 cylinders though :(

I went diesel to avoid 4 cylinder petrol engines in a 5 series. There just something nice about those extra 2 cylinders.

You’re 100% correct for enthusiasts like you and myself, but you know what, they are decent engines, with good amount of poke.

That being said, driving my dads E89 30i is always an experience :D Especially if I’m not paying for fuel :p

It's not just enthusiasm. Its about refinement and the aural experience.

I think you have to be an enthusiast to notice those things though. I'd say 90% of my friends wouldn't be able to tell the difference between a 4 and a 6 cylinder engine assuming they produced a similar amount of power.

You need to replace 90% of your friends. They're clearly unrefined oafs good sir.

If they drove both for a reasonable amount of time?

As passengers I agree it isn't something that you will notice unless you were interested.

I don't disagree :p

It'd be interesting to do an experiment, but I highly doubt the majority of people would notice.

Must say my 428i is plenty fast enough for every day use and can be somewhat frugal on a longer run too. I think it may be the sweet spot or performance and running costs.

My 440i doesn't use appreciably more fuel than my 430i did, both will happily hit low teens if pushing on (430i actually slightly worse as you could use all of the power more often...), and both can get into the high 30s early 40s on a run...

It was one of the things that annoyed me about the 430 actually is that it didn't have a fuel advantage over the 440, so thought I might as well get the much nicer engine and boat loads more power :D

Had a shot of a friend's F30 330d that has a remap on it. Knew it would feel quick but it was silly in the wet in sport plus. Pretty much set on a x30d for the next car once the chaos calms down.

He paid £18k for a 67 plate with 30k on the clock, the same cars are a fair few thousand more for more mileage.

The lack of pro nav didn't seem a big deal on a short drive but not sure what other functionality pro nav brings other than looking better?

Need to get a test drive of an F11 and compare the pros and cons. Interior didn't feel bad to me coming from an Astra so a 5 will feel like a Rolls Royce.

The 5 series is more of a barge than the 3 series (f11 Vs f30). Also the interior is a noticeable step up in quality.

Pro nav is a must. Makes the "cheap" interior of the f30 look a bit better.

Put a holding deposit down on a 2016 M235i yesterday, here’s the listed options installed:

Full dealership history, Red Full leather interior - Excellent Condition, 4 seats, Black, Upgrades -BMW Navigation - Professional, Metallic Paintwork, Reversing Assist Camera, Park Distance Control Front/Rear, Seat Heating for Driver/Front Passenger, High Beam Assist, Standard Features - 18in Alloy Wheels, Privacy Glass, DAB Digital Radio, Bluetooth with Music Streaming, DVD Function, Automatic Bi-Xenon Headlights and Wipers, Paddle Shift, Dual Climate Control, Cruise Control, CD/Radio/Aux/USB, Electric Windows and Mirrors, Iso-Fix

Has it?

Seems sparse to me.

No adaptive suspension or lights, no HK, no folding mirrors, no electric seats, no sunroof...

It's basically got the Pro nav and a reversing camera.
Sun roof doesn’t bother me, what’s the difference between adaptive light and automatic xenon/high beam assist?

Yeah no HK audio is annoying but adaptive suspension isn’t really all that important to me.

Adaptive splits the main beam I believe.

Fair on the sunroof, but also consider that come selling time - whenever it may be - that this car really doesn't have many options ticked. Alright folk here telling you that you don't need it, but someone in the future may want it, especially where the adaptive suspension is concerned. A tonne of folk in the M*34/40i space follow Joe Achilles and his advice is to never, ever select the passive dampers.

No but you now you mention it, I need to search through the BMW AUC section and see what’s on offer too before handing over any money.

£20k seems a good price, but remember from BMW you'll get at least 12 months AUC, so it might be worth paying the extra.

I've just found an M235i for £22.5k with essentially every option ticked and 10k less miles than yours. Know where my money would be going...
