BMW and M Power Owners

Whilst I haven't gone as far yet as taking the luggage around dealerships (but will do that when the cash is actually available to put down on a car), the M3 Touring does appeal, but the local Dealer says they have a lead time of 18 months :(
Cotswold Cheltenham told me they had something like 10 deposits as soon as the car was announced and also said likely 12+ months lead time. I've not asked recently as I can't bring myself to pay £100k for a 3 series estate (regardless of whether it's an M car or not) and it has that front end.

Thanks all again.
The dealer (Cotswold BMW) managed to get a 230i in thundernight purple for me to drive for a few hours yesterday.

I actually liked it more than I thought. The 240i has 245hp, so not quite at 140i power but it felt punchy enough.
It also felt a bit snapper in handling, I guess due to the lighter engine up front.

I was also pleasantly surprised by the new iDrive system. There are a few instances where you have to touch the screen as there are no longer buttons (heated seats, AC etc). Not as bad as I initially thought.

Not sure whether to just go for it as I doubt I'll be in this position again.
But it's £600 a month.

What's the effective deal (exact model/deposit/mileage/etc) for £600 a month?

However you spin it, it's a lot for a 2 series. Cars do seem to be going this way though, the interest rates are poor, BMW AUC are pretty much offering 13.9% across the board now. Not sure about new.

Hi all

Appreciate there has been a discussion on this recently, but my dad is looking at changing his Cayenne to an M340i or 540i, purely to be back in a petrol.

I'm not super clued up on the G20 or G30 packs, and it seems to be a bit confusing as they change depending on the year.

HK is a must, which I think is included in the tech pack. Sunroof also a must.

What about adaptive cruise? Which pack is that included in?

I'm not a fan of the single line DRLs, like in this post: https://g20.bimmerpost.com/forums/showpost.php?p=24488671&postcount=9

I prefer the second picture, which has them as a flick, rather than a line..

Is this just a Laser Light option thing? Is it exclusive to different years?

This looks like it has the spec I'm looking for: https://usedcars.bmw.co.uk/vehicle/202212082387494

Thanks in advance

Sunroof is very rare on both 3 and 5 Series. The first M340i were available with a Premium pack which a few have which added the sunroof. After that it's an option on its own that few went for.

It is part of Driving Assistant Professional, which is included in the Technology Plus Pack.

Laser Lights are available with the visibility package. As standard, you get LED headlights with a much smaller daytime running light.

It does, but it's also incredibly expensive. £45k for a car of that age? There are virtually new facelift cars for similar money on the approved used website.

I've been watching the market for these for some time now and prices are all over the place. You will sometimes find two very similar cars at two different dealers with huge price differences for no apparent reason.

There was a car with the same options packages as that (Without the black wheels, so actually even nicer) on a 22 plate with 5k miles at a different dealer for £1k more a few weeks ago. It's sold now, but it gives you an idea. I have just noticed it has the upgraded M Seats which are very very rare and I suspect that is why they think they can get so much for it. I cannot see how those seats are worth paying that much more though.

You should also note that the 540i Saloon was discontinued in the UK from July 2020 onwards. It is now only available as an estate.

The price definitely seems high, but it was just an example of what kind of spec he'd be looking for.

Sunroof definitely seems rare, but it's such a fantastic option. He has a pan roof on his Cayenne and I don't think he'd have a car without one now.

I really don't think it's as useful as you think on a saloon. It isn't like the roof on something like a Cayenne. It's much smaller.

You are going to have enough difficulty finding the rest of the spec, adding a sunroof too will make the search almost impossible.

The 3 Series is also a step down from what he already has. It's the best 3 Series yet in terms of quality and interior but there are various little details missing that make a car feel a bit more luxurious which he may notice after his Porsche. Things like the door handle armrests being plastic rather than leather, etc.

It's more the extra light than anything, but we're going to go and look at a few, so he can make the decision based on experience. But I agree, it definitely limits what can be found.

You're right about interior quality, and it has been brought up. We discussed whether it really makes a difference, and again we're going to look at some, so he can make the decision there.

He has other cars, though, and so he knows what the difference will be.

The touring is higher up on his list, as one of the best things about the Cayenne is practicality.

As I mentioned before, the main purpose of the move is going back to a petrol. He's got the V8 diesel, and while it is fantastic, it just isn't a petrol.

Is acoustic glass a thing on the G20? Is it part of a specific pack?

That time of year again my warranty renewal has come through on my 2016 430D
73500 miles on it now, compressive cover with £250 excess is £540, named component is £463

Something to consider as I'm toying with trading in next year depending on how prices go.

EME failure on the i3 explains why it won't charge quicker than 3kw.
€6000 plus labour plus vat. Should be covered under the warranty - got 4 years when I bought it.

Not much seems to go wrong with these cars, but when it does, it's expensive. Had the driver's heated seat elements replaced the other week as well...

Has anyone on here recently placed an order for an M3 Touring and if so what's your lead time looking like at the moment? Looking to upgrade both mine and my wife's car next year, while she wants a convertible, I still need some practicality in order to shift a family of four around, so boot space is a must and I'm currently spoiled by the cavern that is the boot space of an Octavia vRS (which I managed to fit 6 suitcases into in the Summer!)

Whilst I haven't gone as far yet as taking the luggage around dealerships (but will do that when the cash is actually available to put down on a car), the M3 Touring does appeal, but the local Dealer says they have a lead time of 18 months :(
If you want an M3 touring but don't want to **** £100+k in monthlies up the wall, then there is an alternative that some regulars on here will give you free abuse upon buying one.

Get a used X3M and you'll have all the fun of the S58 engine along with a spacious car for the family and your luggage, for less than half the cost of a new M3 Touring with silly touchscreen. They are also incredibly well spec'd as standard and make the M40i look like poor value.

The ride is also perfectly nice and firm :D

Anyone done the recent iDrive 7 update yet?
I've downloaded it and got it on the car via the app, but the status in the car just remains that I'll be notified when it can actually install. Been like that for a couple of weeks, pretty annoying.

I'm charging the battery as that seems the most likely reason it's getting stuck - any other ideas?

Mine took an age to download to the car from the phone and then it notified me when I stopped that it could be applied. Have you check in the App and on the car?

Yeah, it's on the car now just says it will let me know when I can install it and never does.
