BMW and M Power Owners

The DAB reception in my Smart car cuts out every time on a particular stretch of road. This is on the island of Jersey, everywhere else it works fine. Probably cuts out in other places too but I haven't been to those places.

Nothing wrong with the car its just the nature of the beast. Its still good for most people who just drive around town or to work.

Mine has gone in today, just seen on the 'online tracker' notes
"DAB reception ok, no faults in system, 12volt cigar chargers can cut dab reception"

Not surprised, presumably a fob off because I had my USB charger plugged in....

Also getting some 'friction plates' fitted because of a clicking noise at full lock, new seat bolster 'inflators' as the current ones have leaked from airbags, handbrake adjusted
Yeah, Fox nailed it.. it's just not the best reception..

I've had 3 BMWs with DAB and all do cut out much more than on VW and other brands I've had.

seems (sdk's was it) iX will be resilient to comfort access relay attacks

What will Ultra Wideband technology mean for me and my car?

The biggest promise UWB tech holds for car owners is in the area of precision localization of car keys. As cars become fitted with UWB antennas, they will be able to recognize other UWB-equipped devices – like a digital key installed on your phone in your pocket – instantly and precisely. Your car will be able to recognize when you are getting closer and automatically unlock, turn on its lights, or even launch preconfigured personalized settings.
UWB technology also puts an end to relay attacks, even if car keys are in motion while being carried. The reason for this is that the UWB chip is always measuring the distance of a straight line between the car key and the car (measuring the speed of light), and consequently preventing the car’s engine from starting if the car key isn’t physically within the vehicle.

I had given up with it so I just setup tasker to launch BBC sounds when BT is connected,,, I still have to press play but at least it's rock solid. Quality is better too.

Thanks for the update. In the meantime not sure if you saw but I fitted some ferrite cores to the dashcam cables. Both front and rear. Seems to have solved the issue. Been to and from work today and had zero drop outs.

Well, as it happens I unplugged the USB cigarette charger on the way into work this morning... no dropouts, so looks like I will be shopping for some ferrite cores!

had you initially disconnected dashcam completely and realised that it was responsible -
I unplugged the USB cigarette charger
get a different charger ? can't see who won this challenge 12-Volt USB Chargers & RF Interference maybe I'll try putting a portable dab/fm next to my car anker one.

I'd just been googling BMW and dashcam dab issues and read various posts about interference. I then noticed I had no cores fitted on any of my cables. So I just took a punt with some from amazon and thankfully they worked.

so it's a bit incongruous why they/dashcams don't have shielded/double shielded cables, equally, for plugin USB chargers - you'd expect some relevant CE rfi certification.
