Quoting for new tyres when you have that much tread left? :D
Yup, as they had cracks on the shoulders from ragging the car around an airfield. I have the MPSS in my garage since having CSC7's fitted for the wetter weather. I'll fit them again in the summer or when I do a trackway.

Yeah, dealers seem to have extortionate prices for tyres.

I've had all my tyre replacements done on my 5 series by my BMW dealer. With the fronts I got in October, the dealer was more than happy to match Kwik fit and their 10% offer at the time. Even before mentioning Kwik fit they weren't significantly out. As ever your mileage may vary...

I had one for the past year, covering about 12k miles. An 840i Coupe, late 2020 in Tanzanite Blue - lots of spec. I have changed it for a 5 Series mainly for practicality reasons, as well as the values dropping. The BMW dealer I sold it to actually made a loss on it, and WBAC were offering £12k less than they gave me (though their prices have dropped a lot lately for most cars).

It was a great car and never had any issues (aside from horrible squeaking brakes that seem to plague a lot of BMWs), it looked fantastic and drove well, but it's a large car and a cruiser, don't think of it as any sort of sports car. Ride quality is ok, but it's firm enough in comfort mode and sport etc is just pointlessly firm. Thin tyres on 20's don't help here. In terms of comfort and refinement, my previous 7 Series was much better.

The first thing to note is that the Coupe looks better (to my eye) but is very much a 2+2 at best. You can cram 4 adults into it but you won't be able to drive far. I saw it as a 3 seater, as the passengers on the passenger side can squash up a bit, but there's no head room in the back at all.

Another unusual thing is the width, it's one of the widest cars you'll find on the road and with the big doors, it can make parking a bit troublesome. The Gran Coupe has smaller doors but is still very wide.

The LCI model (2022) has minimal changes. The front grille lights up and has twin slats, and the main interior screen is larger, but does look a bit awkward. There are a couple of new wheel designs too, but that's it.

In terms of things going wrong, it's mechanically very similar to something like an M340i, less so in fact as it has no xDrive system to go wrong. I would imagine a lot of the electrical systems are the same. Of course this can depend on spec, if you have Laserlights for example, replacing one of those would no doubt be a huge expense. Or if the Driving Assistant system packed up. The warranty is stupidly expensive and formed part of the reason I changed it too, you're probably better off just risking it, but that's a personal decision - it's gambling vs insurance, effectively.

Coming onto the spec, mine had a lot, Laserlights, B&W Audio, Driving Assistant Pro. I'd say they are all worth it but not a must have by any means. The standard lights are still adaptive and the Lasers are perhaps 10% brighter at a push. The B&W is better than the standard HK but it depends how fussy you are about audio. The ventilated seats are meh, they are not cooled (like a Range Rover), but do keep your back a bit fresher when it's warm. If you're often on the motorway as mentioned, Driving Assistant Pro is brilliant, but it's very dodgy on winding country roads and you'll have to carefully monitor it. HUD is standard.

All in all I would definitely recommend it, it's one of the nicest looking cars you'll come across and people do tend to show an interest in it too.
Thanks for the input. I can count on two hands the number of times i have had more than 2 adults in my 5 series. I think the 7 series would be a bit much and I really don't like the look of it. The only practical thing i want is folding rear seats for that odd long item i might want to carry. Not having them in my F10 makes fitting anything to long to go in the boot a real pain to get in the car. In the past i would use the wifes family car to transport such thing. But i made the idiotic decision to replace the family car with an EV. So while it i.

The large drop in price recently is what is attracting me, to something I wouldn't have normally considered. I am not a fan of the looks of the GC it would have to be the Coupe for me. The comments about ride comfort are food for thought. I will have to test drive one. My 5 series is due a service so might try and line up a test drive at the same time.

Nothing specific. The N63 is supposed to be pretty reliable with the latest revision. However the car gets the 8 series premium charged if anything needs doing. It's a hedge to reduce my background anxiety levels.

Any cars in particular you're looking at?
No specific cars as yet. I really like sonic blue with Silver wheels. A lot seem to have black wheels. I wouldnt be overly precious about colour if the spec was right along with everything else.

I would want to drive one with the comfort pack to see if this is something i want. It is something i wish i had got on my 5 series. Seems a lot of 840i/d have msport pro pack but not many with the others.

A fully loaded msport pro, visibility, tech plus and comfort pack would be nice but probably rare as rocking horse poo.

Because the 440i has the S0777 flag from previous owner tuning and not telling the dealer who sold it to me.. I cannot apply BMW warranty.

So I thought, I may aswell tune it, got myself a BootMod3 license for £250 second hand. Stuck the Stage 1 98Ron map on.

It's... yea, a bit Rowdy. However, I'm pleased, because I'm able to turn the pops, bangs and burbles that came with the MPPSK down a touch. They were a bit anti social. Now I can use Sport mode and not feel like a McDonald's cusing chav.

It ran 299 WHP before I had new Injectors, Spark Plugs and the BM3 Map.

I plan to run it again on the DynoDaze Dyno next Saturday. See how the power has increased.

interested in your thoughts...
my f32 i bought for £20k and now trading for £11k after 3 years = £250/mth depreciation
the new car is exactly 4.5 years newer, so taking my man maths: £11k + (54 mths x £250) = £24500
i'd have paid an extra £2350 for a newer car with a better engine and gadgets

notwithstanding the newer model coming soonn (that is the god-awful g26 with a face only a mother could love)...if i kept the car the same length of time, i'd expect it to have a similar residual (£11-12k)?
or am i totally ballsing up my maths?
Went back in time a little.
How did your calculations work out? Considering the 440i is probably worth the same as it was 3 years ago haha.

Also regarding MPG on a B58...

We drove from Hinckley to Alton Towers today, decided to take the 440i to give it a run.

I sat behind the HGVs most of the way. Managed 50.1mpg un till I hit Alton. Then it dropped to an average of 46.6mpg when we parked up.

That in my opinion is blooming good going for a 3L Petrol! Very impressed
