BMW and M Power Owners

So realistically I am torn between M340i or M340d i do around 8 mile each way for my day job but pretty much every weekend when race season starts im all over the uk and eu shooting bikes or drifting so can stick 25k miles on a car in a year very quickly , is the mpg seriously as decent on the petrol as being stated in this thread ? seems mad they can achieve 40+ is that babying the crap out of them? . I have just sold my skyline so i keep looking at new but there is some good used deals out there once i get something the leon daily can disappear also

They are very efficient for a 3 litre turbo petrol but the same is true of the diesel. So, yes, you'll probably be able to get 40mpg+ out of the M340i depending on your driving style, but you'd probably be getting 50-60 out of the diesel if driven the same way. I think I'd be looking for the diesel for 25k a year.

Actually, I think I'd be looking for a 5 Series for 25k a year.

the 5 seems a tad too big for me if i am honest think the 3 series is a nice enough size especially in a touring. i have a heavy impatient right foot sometimes so ive always leant towards the 340d

This has drawn me in https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-de...romsra&make=BMW&model=3 Series&sort=relevance

The BMW app gives you an overview of your years driving, this is mine for 2023. I tend to not hoon it around every drive, but I'm rarely in Eco Pro mode (Generally use Adaptive) and I do like to put the foot down now and again in Sports Plus when its 'appropriate' to do so  Honestly, BMW engineers must sprinkle some sort of incredible voodoo dust down the intakes of the B58 to have it capable of getting decent fuel consumption but still make you grin from ear to ear when you let loose with the power.

That said, as Fox suggests, if you are clocking up 25k miles pa then a diesel may well make more sense. I don't do the mileage to warrant an oil burner but I did look at the M340d before purchasing my M340i.

Any M340i guys retro-fitted M1 & M2 buttons on their steerting wheel? Where did you source your kit from?

Few folk on an FB owners group I'm on have fitted the M1/M2 buttons. I was considering it as it would be quite handy to be able to change drive modes from the wheel rather than look down at the centre console controls or use voice commands but I am really not sure of the process involves wiring wise/removing airbag etc. Seems fairly straightforward from what some folk have described but I'm still iffy about fiddling. Think the last chap I read about who did it got the kit from AliExpress :p

Also, while I'm on here in this thread, does anyone know if when you take out the official extended BMW Insured warranty, if you take it with 'Roadside Assistance' included, is it exactly the same as 'BMW Assist' which is part of the original manufacturers warranty? Reason I'm asking is I recently took out my extended warranty but as I had RAC cover in place already, I didn't bother with the 'Roadside Assistance' option.

Fast forward to yesterday and I got a stone stuck between the front brake disc and brake backing plate/shield. Made a truly outrageous noise and the usual 'two or three emergency stops/reverse a few times' didn't work. So had to call out BMW Assist (my original warranty ends 31st January) and they were absolutely brilliant. Technician was with me in under an hour, 10 mins later it was fixed. Thoroughly nice chap too, chatted away about M340's and most definitely knew his stuff about them.

I was so impressed with the service that I'm planning on calling BMW Insured Warranties up tomorrow and adding it onto my policy, if its the same assistance that you get with the original warranty, that is.

thats decent , but i dont have patience to drive like miss daisy got a few saves im going to enquire about tomorrow lunchtime , feels real odd going and seeing an empty space in the garage haha

Anyone got an i4 here? My 5 is in for EGR recall and been given one for the day. Really pleasantly surprised by the drive back from the dealers this morning, but wondering how people are finding these or any other BMW EV after owning longer term?

Got access to a sal sac EV scheme and was already considering switching to an EV via that, but having driven the i4 now I'm even more tempted. Just a shame the i5 and the IX aren't lookers....

I was looking at buying the m50 but all reviews basically said...buy an m340d or I depending on your mileage. Or if you're set on electric, buy a tesla.
The general concensus was that the speed is fun for a little while then it just gets quite boring and soulless to drive. It also has impracticalities such as the transmission tunnel and gearstick that don't make sense.

What are the best options to look for in the G05 X5? The 45e seems like a pretty decent car. I've seen some with heated and cooled cup holders! Did they get rid of the 7 seat option?

Battery means no 7 seats. See my post on page 1013 listing our new 45e.

Options wise you really want:

- Comfort seats and HUD are a must.
- Heated seats with the heated wheel and armrests.
- Laser lights with adaptive high beam assist.
- 21" wheels.
- HK stereo
- Driving Assist pro if you can find it.
- Watch out for 2021 Covid cars with deleted options (HK, touchscreen, wireless charging).

Then get yourself on Octopus Go Intelligent. With the slow charging speed (or dropping it further on 3 pin) you can get some amazing extra cheap power. The other day I got 7.5p/kWh between 16.30 and 11:00 the next day :D

This one is very nice and almost identical to our one(but without towbar). But it has the 22s (21s are better), vented seats with massage, leather dashboard and soft close doors. Still a bit punchy on price, I'd want it for £45k.
