BMW and M Power Owners

Its taken almost 15 years but I am finally now driving a BMW with Runflat tyres I'm happy with and would pick again.
What tyres did you go for? I bought some Bridgestone Driveguards and they are surprisingly good, they don't feel like runflats at all. They're more mid range than high performance though.

Just bought a Vgate iCar Pro adapter and Bimmercode software. Brilliant bit of kit for £22. Software isn't cheap at £30.99 but I used my Google Rewards money to pay for it. I wish I knew about this sooner. The DVD in motion coding is great to keep children quiet!

Who wants a laugh?

I took my X5 into Sytner Sunningdale 3 weeks ago for a brake fluid service and also because I'd reported a knocking noise coming from the front offside. 3 weeks later and every single component of the front suspension changed as well as the steering rack and it turns out the noise was coming from a loose brake pad. The components excluding labour were in excess of £3000. Since collecting it there is a horrible springy metallic metal on metal noise coming from the front so it's going back.
To be fair to the service team they have been very communicative!

Great so all it cost was 200 quid for a new tyre instead of 15 quid for a repair. Bargain.
I'd take the option of being able to get back to somewhere safe and not be stuck on the side of the motorway or in the middle of nowhere with the family in the car. I had a puncture in my M3 once and the compressor/foam option was absolutely useless as well as being a faff.

Is that really anything other than a rare occurrence? Most punctures are such that you can drive home after reinflation.

You'd need an actual blowout to be stranded and you won't be driving on a blown out runflat either.
No, but I prefer not having that thought in the back of my mind especially with kids in the car.

When my daughter was 8 weeks old I've been given a 330d Touring as a courtesy car because an old lady had driven into my M3 and it was in the bodyshop. I was doing 70mph on the M4 and ran over some kind of metal object that ripped into the tire. Having the runflats allowed me to drive to an open tire shop and get it replaced, otherwise I'd have had to limp onto the hard shoulder, faff about with sealant, which probably wouldn't have worked as the hole in the tire was huge, wait for a tow truck, get towed to the shop etc all whilst having a newborn in the car. I was skeptical about runflats before that but since I have been happy to fit them to my car.

Unfortunately the 540i has been discontinued in saloon form now so they are all prefacelift cars. I still think its probably the better car, but it's so difficult to find one with the right spec whereas the M340i is better specified as standard giving the 20 inch wheels and M performance trim brigade have less scope to spec tragic cars.

In an ideal world I'd have a very high spec 540i. But I've never seen one in this country.
Are you specifically looking at saloons? I'd only consider a touring and I have seen several high spec ones for sale.
