BMW and M Power Owners

I've grown up driving diesels mostly, I'm used to their power delivery. But I'm not saying I have to have a diesel, I just like them.

You probably like turbocharged power delivery rather than diesel power delivery, so you'd like a 120i as well.

Whats great about the power delivery in a 120d? I've had loads of loan cars with this engine and its always the same - nothing below 2000rpm, frustrating to pull away with and all over by 3500rpm.

The notable exception is when paired with an autobox gearbox, it works really well with an autobox as the box irons out all the annoying parts of the power band and amplifies the benefits.

118i surely? There's no 120i in the F2x range.

Even the 116i has a pretty decent engine! It's the same as the 118i but detuned.

Haven't tried the 120d actually. Test drove the 320d which had a nice amount of acceleration and the typical diesel pull when you're obviously going too slow for the gear :D Apparently (sales pitch) I was told the engine in the 1 is the same, they were trying to get me to put a deposit down on one in a different part of the country and test drive a different one they had in stock tomorrow as I'm off.

If it had to be the newer 1 series I'd agree to try the 118i - it has some genuinely impressive numbers.

I'd hate myself for spending £19k on one though

£19k on a poor spec 120d? Just why?
There's a 135i at a BMW dealer for £23k with an OK spec to put that into perspective..[/url]

I don't know, that's why I asked! :p My previous experience of buying cars has been on the bargain bucket end of things, my knowledge of BMWs is low.

Edit: I have a personal limit of £300 for this financing, I'm not paying more for a 1 series. I would've gone higher if the missus didn't immediately veto the 4 series :(

Test drive everything, buy what you prefer.
I'd personally spend less and get one with better spec. (Be that a 118i or 120d)

I'd hazard a guess that white ones may well be priced higher than other colours because every **** and his dog wants a white one. Reminds me of a combo-van!

White and black are the freebie colours. They also look the best so easy decisions imo :)

For the options, try and get xenons at least, that'd be the first box I'd tick if buying another 118i.

Must have options:
Xenons
Driver comfort pack for cruise control, rear parking sensors
Interior comfort pack for climate control

Would also get the HK audio upgrade if that's important to you as I don't think the standard system is very good. Things like satnav, leather are nice to have but not really essential.

I disagree a bit with that, only in that I think leather is an essential for any BMW as do most buyers down the line - though most have it anyway tbh.

I could live without nav in the newer models too as you'll still have idrive, a non 90's screen and not many people spec it in the lower engine models anyway

Your must haves make it very expensive! Found a 120d for £15,500 from BMW that I think has most of it, e.g. the Xenons and Driver comfort (doesn't list climate, only automatic air conditioning). Can't help think that may still be too much.
