BMW and M Power Owners

Having had leather seats in other cars it wouldn't be a preference of mine, not that I really care too much.

If you decide to go for a manual one, make sure you get a LONG test drive in it first. The pedals are offset to the right, and I found the clutch in my 125i to be utterly dreadful. It's a single-plate affair that has an inconsistent biting point, and sometimes shudders on pull off.

It would be worth test driving the auto even if you think you don't like them. The ZF 8HP box in these cars is a very, very good.

How long is a piece of string?

You will pay more from a main dealer, but if the car is out of manufacturer warranty you'll also get a very good warranty that will last 12 months. You will only know how good bad or otherwise the price is by looking at the asking price of similar examples.

You seem to have a bit of a random budget - somewhere between £10k and £20k is pretty massive in variance terms. Budget should come first then car to fit IMO. Forget the monthly payment nonsense

£10k if I buy outright, c£19k if I go PCP, totally sensible budget :D

I'm matching it to the money I get from my job for a car.

Edit: I can probably go up to £15k if I buy outright though.

Totally wrong decision, I ordered a 1 series after test driving a 118i, and cancelled and went for a 320d m sport f30, no regrets at all, eay classier, stylish ect.

There's nothing classy about a 320d.

I'm sure nicer, but not classier.

It may not be a 5 series or a luxory car but I think it is classier than a one series, my opinion. I'm happy with my 320d anyway. I'm only 20 so for me it's an amazing car but perhaps that's because I'm not used to pricey vehicles. Just my opinion

What sort of ballpark figure am I looking at to have the transmission fluid changed and the cv gator (the high oil consumption problem) looked at at an independent ble specialist? on my e46 330.

thanks for the figures.

Transmission fluid for the car refusing to go into any gear when cold, cc valve (not cv gator sorry) for my oil top ups every 600 miles unless these aren't the most likely culprits of those two issues?

CV? Or CCV? There's a fairly big difference in labour charges between the two :)

CCV can be done DIY, it's fiddly and can be done in about 2 hours if you've done it before, or about 4-5 max if you're taking your time. A good specialist will probably charge between the two I'd have thought. If it is the CCV, ensure you get a new dipstick tube too (most of the kits don't come with one), these get gunked up and can cause issues.

What transmission is it? The ZF Auto's can take anywhere from 4-7 litres of oil, good compatible oil is about £10 a litre from Opie Oils (Mobil's LT71141 spec stuff) and again, a couple of hours for labour if you're getting it done from a garage.

Edit: Sorry, just re-read and noticed that you'd clarified on the CV/CCV :p

Yeah my old car needed a CV gator just before I sold it so I get confused between the two and it doesn't help I have no idea what either do. But yup It's definitely the CCV on this car.

Oil isn't leaking or burning (noticeably) and a bit of googling suggests a likely cause as it "disappears" at the CCV.

It's the five speed manual. What transmission fluid should I go for for the manual?
