BMW and M Power Owners

Which is really silly.

Nobody is going to sell you a reasonable warranty for a £2k car that might make a sensible purchase so this is completely academic. You cannot buy a good warranty for the sort of car you could simply deposit in the nearest dustbin and buy a new one should something big go wrong with it. Which is why car value has no real bearing on whether you should buy a warranty, only in the sense that by the time car value matters, you probably cant buy one anyway.

See above for why this is irrelevant.

No, or an £8k car. Or a £15k car. Or infact any car you'd actually consider buying a warranty on.

No, it doesn't.

The type of cars you would and could purchase decent warranties for are all worth sufficient money that car value is simply not a factor.

Love how you just argue for the sake of it. Even though you are actually in agreement to what I'm saying, you just twist the words to make an argument. The value of the vehicle is absolutely relevant, as you say here:

No, or an £8k car. Or a £15k car. Or infact any car you'd actually consider buying a warranty on.

So, deciding on a warranty based on the cars value.

Anyway, your argument doesn't really matter, as this discussion was initially brought up by a question on warranty on a £2500 e46. So vehicle value is relevant.

Honestly, I don't get why some people on here hold your opinion in such high regard. Yes, you know a bit about BMW's, and driving stuff in general, but you come across as a pompous ******* determined to fight your own arguments sometimes.

No, 99% of people who are eligible for a quality warranty will not decide based on the cars value as it is an irreverent factor. By the time it becomes relevant, the warranties available to you are crap - not BECAUSE your car has low value, but because your car is very old or high miles, neither of which are easily warrantable. The value is by that stage an attribute not a factor.

I did not have a warranty on my 530i - not because it was worth 50p, but because it had 200,000 miles on it and was 13 years old and therefore no warranty firm with any brain would offer a comprehensive policy. Had somebody offered me one I'd have happily purchased it but of course such things do not exist for such old high mileage cars.

but you come across as a pompous ******* determined to fight your own arguments sometimes.

Then we are in good company because that's exactly how you come across too :D

Ha ha. Nailed it then. I completely agree because I am a pompous *******. Well, in fact, I would generally describe myself in far stronger terms.

He's probably right though, doesn't that stop it being an accusation? :p

If only there was a like button.

But point taken Will. I will refrain from such name calling as it isn't really called for, although it was meant in semi-jest.

Have found replacement wheels for my 330i, the rears are cracked so ive picked up a full set with tyres at decent tread between 4mm - 6mm.

(there are not marks on the wheels, my camera is ****ed)

Centre caps are a bit poor bit they can be replaced for £30.

Will try to sell my fronts that are fine and see if anyone will buy the rears cheap and hopefully get a bit of money back.

It also saves me buying 4 tyres as mine are down to 2mm.

The tyres on there are Bridgestone potenza RE050A. Not sure how good they are, a quick search says they are run flats, does anyone know if they do non run flats? or do run flats have a mark on the side of the tire to identify them as?
i cant see any mention of it on the sidewall.

That's good news as I want to ditch run flats :)

What is the tyre repair kit I need?

I remember fox linking an official BMW mini kit but can't remember where I saw the link. I can't seem to find what I remember seeing on eBay.

There are quite a few BMW mobility kits on Ebay - I bought a couple for about 25 quid plus post. Brand new, never used, genuine (though I doubt BMW make them themselves) and with a can of stuff that's 'in date' for 5 years.

Nice, pretty good you managed to get that level of detail!

What are you doing 'warranty' wise for the car, or are you taking any issues as it comes?

I've had a look at companies like Warranty Direct, but not sure if they actually cover everything - you know what these insurance companies are like.

Sorry for late reply.

As fox has alluded to, no warranty....

Any 320d owners, or anyone else,

Looking at servicing on BMW's they generally use condition based servicing on things "as and when it needs it" or when the service light for that particular service type comes up on the dash.

My understanding is get the oil done more frequent, lets say every 10K miles, even though the dash may give a longer interval before it brings up the light, 10k is what I was doing on my old car.

Then on the BMW just service everything else as and when indicated?

What about the fuel filter? I was maybe thinking of tying the oil (any oil filters) and fuel filter on the same service every 10k?

Sound feasable?

Usually in other cars I just change everything at 10k

Sooooo...had a call from the dealer earlier the build date on the 335d had gone back to late March 2015. He said he might have a couple of options so headed down to have a chat.

We looked at new 530d, yes I know but this one had electric seats so managed to get a good driving position, numbers ended up in the right place, just the car colour wasn't what I wanted, or at least the one with the spec I wanted.

Then we had a look at a 640d M Sport coupe which they'd just had come in. It on a 13 plate car, with the older CIC nav, variable dampers, surround view and pro nav. Again numbers worked and it's in space grey so nice colour with black leather. Couldn't borrow it though as its untaxed so they've leant me a 14 plate car with the M a Sport Plus pack for a couple of days. It's got the HUD, 20" wheels, harmon kardon speakers, reversing camera and multi function instrument panel...I fell in love with it on the drive home so we had a chat and he has found me a new car...

So tomorrow morning, unless I have a change of heart Overnight, I'll be ordering the new car, which is

640d M Sport Carbon black with black leather
M Sport Plus pack
Surround view
Service pack

Maybe that'll get a better reaction than the 335d ;)
