BMW and M Power Owners

We looked at new 530d, yes I know but this one had electric seats so managed to get a good driving position,

They've all got electric seats :p

So tomorrow morning, unless I have a change of heart Overnight, I'll be ordering the new car, which is

640d M Sport Carbon black with black leather
M Sport Plus pack
Surround view
Service pack

Maybe that'll get a better reaction than the 335d ;)

Damn right - that sounds absolutely epic. A properly awesome car - very jealous.

Not completely relevant, but I thought you may be interested to know that even with 105k miles now on my E92 M3 BMW still honour the warranty.

With the mileage I do I really should get rid but I just love the car, it's been brilliant.

Had some expensive things go wrong (although expensive is relative I guess) - coil packs. Warranty - total bill was about 700 quid (although to be fair I'd probably not have replaced all of them!).

Throttle actuators - about 2k.

Not too long ago O2 sensors and they also discovered that one of the manifolds (I have no idea what that is) hadn't had this that or the other to it - repaired.

Complete accident choosing the monthly pay warranty (about 80 quid I think), it's been brilliant, and BMW haven't said anything about the mileage.

[EDIT]'d to add that if I could get over my epic (and probably entirely irrational) hatred of diesels I would be all over a 640D. Beautiful piece of machinery.

Still, best get looking for a new car. Sigh. So, so close to just going out and buying another E92 M3 until the F80s come down in price a bit.

But I thought you hated diesels? But as long as it's a BMW it's alright lol. :p

So I got my car back, here is one of my very finest photos.

Collected the car this evening from Shorade in Cannock and it looks superb. If you ignore the exhaust pipes and discs it looks like a new car. Spent 2K of my own hard earned on top of the insurance repair to make it new (bonnet, rear bumper, door mirrors, wheels, full valet including swiss wax leather treatment and geo) so it is like a new motor. Small issue with a light relating to the pedestrian protection system, but booked into BMW for a full service and they have already phoned ahead and arranged for them to reset the light, which is a BMW only thing.

Anyone want to buy a REALLY nice 60K miles 530D with FBMWSH :D

Did you have an off? :(

I had my first car damage (road and race) in 30 years. 10mph into a metal post protecting a petrol pump, half asleep and the very best irony......driving to OCUK to take a part back that didn't fit. I hate Gibbo the hat stealing sell me wrong stuff Porsche driver.

...and to add, the 2K includes £600 excess (the extra £200 for not allowing them to send it to their chosen back street cut and shut in Stoke)

If it was on 59k I'd have had it off you 6 months ago :p

In all seriousness I would not have sold it you then, it needed to be tidied and done to a high standard. Now it is arguably (when I have it serviced and disc/pads done) one of the finest 530d's of this mileage out there.

After spending that sort of money making it perfect is it worth selling? Might as well enjoy it further - it's not depreciating by a huge rate presently.

I am probably going to give it to the wife, use the MX5 against something faster.

What's the newer CIC nav?

There isn't a newer CIC.

CIC was the version of iDrive introduced for the 2009 model year. It was replaced for the 2013 model year by NBT.

CIC was completely different to the previous system and extensively designed with all new menu structures, larger screens, etc. NBT is a new system but has a similar look and feel to CIC - however it's quicker, more responsive and has better menu animations etc.

F10 M5? Got to be next on my shopping list unless I need an estate.

I am considering another 911 or an M car, but more likely the M would be a 5/6 as I found the M4 left me a little cold after taking some time to drive and then consider it. Frankly for 65K it does not seem special enough or of enough quality and the 5/6's feel significantly higher standard. The M3 is better than the M4, both in looks and ability I feel so see the M4 as a bit of dead dog really or for someone in there late 20's/30's who is doing OK.

Water pump done, £138 all in, which doesn't seem too terrible. It has improved the car and my driving experience 187,456% (i checked) just by getting rid of the bloody annoying bearing rattle and having to drive with half an eye on the thermostat.

This has made me think, why do newer cars not have a thermostat? It is a pretty vital instrument when you think of the consequences of no pump or no coolant!
