It's bizarre really but I really dont like the multifunction instrument panel. It just looks far too busy and blingy. The standard fit full black panel display you'll have on your new car looks so much more neat and professional.

Sorry to disappoint you but mine will have both the full multifunction panel and HUD as they are part of the M Sport Plus pack.

I really like it, it works well when your actually driving and it changing in appearance entirely depending on what mode your in and whether the HUD is turned on or not is very neat.

Didn't realise it was night mode - doesn't look as great as the day mode. Had assumed it was just the Sport mode or something. I've never driven one with the multifunction display only ever seen pictures and every picture people post has it in full on bling mode, assumed that was the same :p

Yeah, that second one down is comfort mode, and the car always starts in this mode.

To be honest, I usually drive in the eco pro mode, because most of my journeys are with the kids on board nowadays, so if I have to drive sensibly, I might as well attempt to get slightly better fuel economy. Only used the sport mode a couple of times in the last year (hard to believe I've had this car for a full year and haven't seriously considered swapping it yet, a record for me), and it was fun, and a fair bit more responsive than eco-pro. But then so is comfort mode. Which again, I rarely use, as I figure even if I get 1 mpg out of eco pro, it's worth it as I rarely am hoofing it anyway, and that 3.0d with the ZF box is plenty for most situations. Admittedly, I do occasionally fling it into sport mode for an overtake or similar.

I did most of the journey yesterday in ECO Pro and it added something like 25 miles over the day so over 10%. The power delivery on the diesel in Eco pro is so much better than the petrol, where the petrol feels like they've chucked the turbo and 2.5 litres of capacity away when you press the button, the diesel doesn't feel much different from normal.

Well I was due to look at a 2010 LCI 320D yesterday, unfortunately it sold before i managed to view.

This may have been a blessing in disguise as I have now spotted an LCI 204bhp 325d, am i correct in thinking that these are the same engine as the LCI 330d and map to the same level as a remapped 330d?

Is it still advisable to take out a BMW warranty on a 325d? Any common problems with the 325d/e90 in general to look out for?

Thanks,

Russ

Hi all,

The 330 needs new handbrake shoes which is easy enough. I know I need a new fitting kit with all the springs in, but will I also need any other bits? On the RealOEM website they list the value kit which comes with everything at approx £100 and includes new adjusters and locks:

http://realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?mod ... g=34&fg=40

Do I need to replace those bits too or will I be okay with new shoes and the spring kit?

It's my first time messing around with handbrake shoes so not sure if those bits are necessary.

Thanks

Question for anyone in the know.

When I had my car serviced last week they did a vehicle check. On it came up that my rear dampers and covers are perishing and a pulley was causing a squeak under the bonnet (something i asked them to check out).

The guy who i was dealing with said the dampers are not covered under the warranty but the pulley was.

The warranty states that "Any item that has worn out rather than suffered from a defect" is not covered. I have comprehensive cover.

Should dampers need replacing from general wear after 65k miles?

if they arnt covered how much would i be looking at?

My Dampers were not covered under warranty on my 330d, cost from BMW was £616 to replace

I can't see your realoem link but are you questioning whether backing plates are needed?

If these are in decent nick (i.e the hole is still a normal sized and shaped hole) then all you should need are the springs and shoes. If it's the rest of the mechanism without the backing plates then personally I wouldn't bother unless again you know the adjsuter is goosed

If they're buggered then the right thing to do is replace them, but you can also repair with washers or bolts if you so wish!

Thanks Rodenal, I appreciate the info. Apologies for the mangled link, I'd copied and pasted the post from another forum but neglected to check the link. The link it should have been pointing at to is as follows:

http://realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=BD52&mospid=47620&btnr=34_1964&hg=34&fg=40

It shows the adjusters and a pair of clips which aren't included in the fitting kits when bought seperately, but I wasn't sure if I should expect these bits to be knackered when I take everything apart :o

For the sake of a couple of quid, I think I'll order some from BMW and return if they're not necessary - I've not a clue on how well the adjusters work, I've not touched the brakes on this car throughout the 2 years I've had it (other than the obligatory visual checks every two months).
