Anyone aware of a simple fix for a noisy exhaust butterfly valve on cold startup on 35i engines?

It goes away after 60 seconds or so but my god its a bit embarrassing when it happens! Ive heard of golf tee mod but id rather fix it rather than bodge it!

Yep, same here, but they generally hold their value better during the summer months - it's now December and they're probably at their lowest value all year. Doubly so if a roadster.

Yeh I put it down to the weather, I new they changed a bit but didn't think it was quite so much. Really has made my mind up to look over the next couple of months instead of the spring.

Playing music via usb/ WP Bluetooth was the main reason I didn't care about getting an uprated sound system in my current Z4, so much easier and cheaper to fit a new good headunit that has every feature you could imagine. In my mind its the only thing that's letting these cars down is the out of date head unit.

Having a windows phone doesn't help either :( but if anyone has got a working solution that works with WP would be nice to know. One less thing nagging at the back of my mind when I go an see one.

What kind of noise is it buddy? Does it last for the whole time it takes for the valve to open?

Fox, what head unit is that?
It's the one bugbear I have, really. I love the E53 interior but the head unit really shows it's age.

Sounds like your butterfly valve is knackered matey. The usual fix is to get the left-hand silencer replaced unfortunately.

3 main options
1. replace left side of exhaust.
2. golf tee by blocking the valve (bit of a nightmare)
3. unplug the valve from the boot, easiest option and I've done it myself. I plug it back in for long journeys as it seems to make the exhaust very slightly droney at 75-80mph. (google golf tee mod and it'll come up with a 1min video to show you how to do it)

Hi all - hoping someone can help me on wheels and tyres for winter. :)

I have a BMW 320D SPORT PLUS EDITION CABRIOLET with standard 19" alloys on it

The back is 255 30R 19 91Y Front (not sure)

What is the smallest steel/alloy I can get for front and back and what is good winter tyres to get?

Where is a good place to get them from?

Many thanks

Should manage to get 16's on a 320d I would imagine. Can't imagine the brakes being huge.

eBay or gumtree are probably a decent shout for where to get them, unless your looking for new ones?

new or second hand - any ideas what spec like 255 30R 19 I would get for 16s - how would I know for certain they would be okay?

Don't wanna buy then find they wont fit :)

I have no idea what your question is!

Agreed. Is that meant to be a question?

I'm guessing you are thinking that what wheels are currently on your car has some bearing on what will fit? What will fit will be determined by the pcd, offset and brakes.

So you will need a pcd of 5x120, probably an offset around 35-40 and a diameter that will clear your brakes. Probably wheels shod with something like 205/50/16 or similar would be what your looking for. But difficult to say without knowing the age of the car.

Maybe you would need 17's to clear the brakes, but unlikely.
