BMW and M Power Owners

The M44 that is currently in the car is only 140bhp

the M52 is 192bhp ... its pretty much a straight swap.

Engine
Loom
ECU
gearbox
Rear diff

all just straight swap parts.

not sure how its not compatible with the car when the m52 comes in every E36 328 sport?

If S52 m3 engines where not 2k + id do that swap..

but for around £600 its well worth the swap to the M52

For some reason I thought we were talking about that Z4, not the E36.

My reconditioned SMG unit should be here next week. Been pottering about in a fiat panda for a week and then a fiat Punto. I did get a brief respite with the Avensis hire car Thur/Fri but I pray this works so I can get back to some power :D

Car was sounding a bit loud today going along the M2, when I slowed down I realized that the exhaust seems to be blowing quite badly.

(Video also includes a guest appearance from the squealing idle pulley)

Shall have to get it on ramps at some point soon and find which bit has gone then get replacing. Any ideas are more than welcome lol.

Quick question, should the engine coolant be checked when a car goes into BMW for a condition based service (engine oil)? Hold my hands up that I hadn't had a good look at the car for a while due to it being a busy period at work, but the engine coolant warning came up on the car over the weekend and I found the coolant to be extremely low - the car only went in to have a service two weeks ago.

It usually is, yes, but any loss of coolant is a cause for concern - you have a leak or some other fault thats caused it. It doesn't naturally vanish.

The turn cap could have been loose if they did check it, if it's not tightened properly the coolant will escape as was the case on my car when I did check once and forgot to tighten the cap and a few days later the coolant light came on... Derped myself!

But generally a decent garage/dealer mechanic will check main fluid levels and advise you if they're low if it's in for something else, I know my garage and local BMW dealer have in the past done exactly this and stuff like screenwash topped up with no charge.

That was my thought too regarding it being low, haven't noticed anything leaking, refilled it yesterday and haven't checked it yet today but wanted to make sure before I get it looked at if need be.

When I was losing coolant it was down to a tiny pin ***** size hole in one of the hoses, it only leaked when the engine was hot and the system was pressurized. It was a bugger to spot.

Changed the hose and its been fine ever since.

When I was loosing coolant on my old E46, as I couldn't find a leak, I just chucked some "Radweld" in and it fixed it nicely ;)

Only do this on something you really dont care about, this stuff can block heater matrix's and all sorts.

Personally i would either just keep topping it up in this scenario, or have a better look for the leak :)

Got the E46 back from the garage after having the PAS pump replaced and the reservoir cleaned up.

It feels fine now when on the move but when parking up, especially in reverse, it makes a loud noise, almost churning like.

Do these new pumps need bedding in, should I be concerned at all?
