BMW and M Power Owners

I've found another manual M3 convertible with hard top and red leather interior, it has a recent inspection 2 and subframe was checked then. It is still under the 10 year warranty so I have at least 6 months if I do buy it to get BMW to sort it out. I suppose the natural thing to do would be to make ample use of gears 1 and 2 before the warranty on the subframe is up :p

Going to view it soon and see what's what but by all accounts it does appear to be the perfect M3 for me so far.

Sounds much better!

I've brought mine away with me this week on business and staying out in the sticks the drives to and from work have been awesome :D these cars just keep rewarding over and over..

Changed the headlight ballast on my zed yesterday, not a job for the faint hearted, especially when it turns out it was just the headlight bulb (as luck wouldn't have it the replacement bulb I tried was DOA). At least I can add it to my list of things I can do....

That's why you always swap bulbs from side to side not buy a new one!

Isn't the ballast just under the headlight or does the bumper need to come off?

Done a tank in the Z4M now, it's filthy already.

Coming from the mx5 to it is a big step in terms of power and getting used to the added weight, being very careful in the wet, its like learning to drive sportily again.

Thanks for everyone's advice in buying it.

Any advice on how to connect an iPhone? Think I'll just fit a factory Aux in.

Consider me taught :p

and alas its a full front bumper off, the ballast sits underneath the headlight but you can't get to it without the bumper off :(

you got pro nav? if so intravee is definitely the way forward :)

What are the Z4Ms like to drive and live with? I've been tempted by the 3.0si but decided to carry on saving for what i've been looking at for a while now which is either a 335i (Driven my sister's partners numerous times and in love with everything about it) or a 650ci (Neighbours brother in law came over in his 645ci and let me have a go in it, fell in love with the noise)

Quick look on PH/AT/Ebay and you can pick one up for around the same price, and I love the looks of it, so aggressive and the noise from what i've heard on YT, so naughty :D, also since it would be a fun car four seats are not necessary to me since I have my Accord as my daily.

I love mine and its only a 3.0si, decently fast (265hp) whilst returning up-to 40mpg (if you are boringly sad enough to drive like a saint), great driving experience, feels nice/tight and planted. I'm amazed I've kept it as long as I have, it speaks volumes about how nice I find the car.

I was looking at the regular 3.0 Z4 while back before the summer as they can be had for 6k or less but as I went on saw other cars and driven some (The 335 for example) I just held off.

I simply cannot wait. Top down, Hampshire roads, bliss.

There is a large difference on the facelift cars, the power is much better and makes its a viable lump, pre facelift were dull imo and did very little to interest me.

I would find it very difficult to agree with this, there is almost zero difference between them with the exception of the engine change and a few styling tweaks. The power isn't 'much better', its just over 10% more powerful at peak.

It's better, sure, but you make it sound like a different car. I don't think I've ever driven the prefacelift Z4 3.0i and thought anything other than 'This is quick'. It's 5.9 to 60 versus 5.7 in the facelift, not big diifferences really?

The facelift fixed none of the genuine Z4 issues such as excessively crashy sport suspension and awful steering feel.

normal car is woefully poor mpg wise, and I drove one and the power delivery was awful.

just sayin'

Woefully poor!? It's remarkably efficient for what it is, you don't even need to try hard to crack 40mpg. Same engine as my 530i but with 300kg less weight and an extra gear ratio.

Power delivery is very similar to the N52. Did you drive a broken one?

Possibly, it returned low double figure MPG (circa 15/17), revved much less and felt dull compared to a facelift, made my buying decision very simple.

I thrash the pants of mine all the time and the mpg is stuck solid at 24.7, I did an angelic run to manchester (55mph) and just managed 40mpg and over 500 miles from the tank I challenge anyone to get more than that. From what I've read the 3.0i can't get anything like that.

maybe I'm wrong, but ignorance is bliss :p

That's what I wondered, but why? It's not much more powerful and it isn't anything like as compatible with the car. surely a 3 litre M54 is better.
