Thanks
Edit: Two owners but the same family have owned it since new. They will only part-ex a car of lesser value which I guess is understandable.
Where did you go in Germany and which route did you take? How did the car handle the journey? I'm going to Dresden in a few months, and I haven't booked my flights yet because my brother has said he'll give me his 530d for the trip. I'm still thinking about it taking the car vs flying.

Automated manual boxes have clutches but only SMG and DCT bmw transmissions are of this type.
Thankyou Fox. SMG and DCT??? What are they?

mrk How are you finding the e46 in terms of rigidity? Do you feel the flex and 'wobbliness' with it being a soft top?
Do you have a hard top for it?
It is a beautiful car BTW!
All will be answered soon in a dedicated thread I've already written up but need to take photos for
But to quickly answer your question, under spirited driving on twisty but rough roads you can feel some flex in the body due to no fixed roof. It's not much and it's certainly not enough to cause unbalance. I found it to cause me to be more alert and aware of what's going on. Maybe some will find this handy but I understand others don't like this. I'm not on either side and just accept that it is what it is. At straight line speeds and smooth roads I can't feel much difference.
I did have the hardtop but sold it. I think the hardtop makes the E46 look better than the coupe in fact but I bought a convertible to be able to drop the roof at a moment's notice so the hardtop was never really going to stick around. 2 or 3 times yearly applications of softtop preserver will ensure the soft top remains in good condition.
Plus it saves some weight
Dude the hard top is fugly, all round and bulbous at the rear, higher than coupe roof line, doesn't have the signature hofmeister kink. Rubbish.
