BMW and M Power Owners

You've got to compromise somewhere with this type of car. Either purchase price and depreciation or running cost risk and generally higher hassle potential.

Depends if it's your only mode of transport really - no matter what I've got I generally have the other half's car to fall back on, or worst case the train.

Yeah that's it. I don't like running 2 cars. I have done in the past and just found it was pointless. Luckily I can get to work by train, but I still don't want big bills as I've just bought a new house and could do without extra expenditure for the time being. The E46 is now at a point where big bills are just waiting to happen, especially when you look at the number of head gaskets being replaced, SMG pumps, sub frame cracks, and other annoyances such as sensors, pulleys, suspension parts.

This is what keeps me from going from my E46 330Ci to an E46 M3, the extra maintenance potential is eye watering to me. I do have my girlfriends car to fall back on, too, but it's not ideal really. I'd prefer something modern next time as well, three E46's is pushing it :D

Even though it was for me, if you took that literally word for word then you need to take a step back :p

528i in the F10 - is Wiki right in that it is a straight 6 NA? How reliable are these engines?
3.0 straight six N53B30.

Replaced in 2014 with the 2.0 Turbo 4 pot.

What I never understood is why they had the 528i and the 530i at the same time (in LHD Europe, anyway). It's the same engine but with 15bhp difference

Only semi reliable, it is a direct injection engine rather than a simple old school straight six.

looking at cheap F10s from 2010/2011.

There are no 'cheap' F10's. You need £15k for a good one with poor spec, more really for a good spec car, unless you want to take a chance on a big mile car. IMHO there is just so much to go wrong I wouldn't be bothered with the faff.

Because that's not what happened - the 530i appeared in 2011 which is when the 528i was replaced with the turbo 4. They were never both available as a Straight Six.

Ah well that makes more sense then.
When I was looking I just saw that both were 2011 cars.

The earliest 530is I can find are from 10/2011 and the 528i 4-pots start appearing at the same time. Thanks :)

There is a cheap SE with 67k miles and professional nav at a big car supermarket atm that I was thinking of as a stop-gap. I would hope that I cold get two years trouble free motoring out of it?

Are BMW direct injection petrols known for coking up?

Having a car for two years is a stop gap? :o

Nothing as exciting as a Lambo unfortunately!

Decided after a 350Z and an XK to get something a bit more sensible before buying the next big car.
