BMW and M Power Owners

You cant be driving that car properly to get that sort of MPG

Myself and most other owners average around the 25mpg mark. Thats with a mix of commuting and sporty back road driving.

Put ya foot down lad!

Woah there! It's not me getting mid 40's!

I get the same as you, around 25MPG on my 4 mile commute

I rarely exceed speed limits either. That would be impressive to get over 40 mpg at 70 mph out the x35i engine. Didn't think it would be that efficient (unless we are talking about resetting the trip computer once up to speed, lol).

I can't imagine, personally, that I would have been getting a M135i to be doing 25k per year in, mostly motorway miles, at the speed limit though. Makes little sense to me. Especially when you are being refunded in ppm. Not sure I'd be going for a x20d either mind you, but I think I'd be looking for something more efficient.

The M135i is a fairly light car for so much power, so the engine is under no stress at all at 70 mph...just sits at a smidgen under 2K rpm, so running very efficiently at that speed. For clarity that figure was from filling up in a town, driving 7 miles through town & villages to the motorway, then once off the motorway 15 miles of A/B roads back to my home, so a journey on which it is possible to be very economical. I'd not be surprised if the motorway bit alone was even 47-50 mpg (thanks to the long sections of 50 mph limit on the M1 at present).

I have a monthly car allowance that pays for the car itself, plus I get fuel "refunded" at 20ppm. I chose this car because it's my one car for all things, so work, personal and track days. My intention is to get a dedicated track car in a few years time, at which point I'll probably get something more boring for the long work journeys. Because the 1 series is like the 3 series in the front it's not an uncomfortable car to drive long distances in, especially with that engine! I wouldn't want to spend long in the back mind you, though it's fine for the kids since they're small.

If I could have afforded it I'd have probably chosen an M3 as my one car fits all option....but sadly, at getting on for twice the price, I couldn't!

I don't really have a commute since I work from home, but I drive a lot to various meetings and what not. My average since day one is 32.1 mpg.

On track, where you can drive it "properly", it gets under 8 mpg. You can't drive it "properly" on the road, so I don't.

I will cover about 25k miles a year in this car, mostly business miles, so the more economical it is on these long runs the better off I am. I'm paid 20ppm (+ tax relief on the difference to 45ppm/25ppm), but at £1.18/litre & 44 mpg I'm already better off by 7.8ppm (before the tax relief)! This all contributes towards running the car.

So why work out at 44mpg then? Surely you just work it out based on the 32.1 mpg? As that is the actual consumption you are getting. So 16.7p per mile, so 3.3ppm better off before tax releif.

I was only referring to that specific journey. I was impressed by the economy of that particular run, it's the best I've seen from the car so far. A typical work journey will see around 35-38 mpg. The 32.1 mpg includes all my non-work driving, for which I don't get paid of course, but as you rightly point out even at 32 mpg I'm still turning a small profit on the fuel reimbursements.

Nooo...wheels are being shipped directly from BBS in germany so won't receive them until potentially when I'm in NYC :(

Does anyone have some sort of warranty on their alloys and tyres. The only reason I asked is when I bought the car I was asked if I wanted a 3 year warranty on them which means they will repair the alloys and replace the tyres if they get punctured.
I didn't go with it only because I hadn't done any research on it and they were wanting quite a lot of money for it.
Does anybody have this and could advise me if it is worth it or not?
thanks

That'll be wheel and tyre insurance. I have it on my 530d. I specifically asked if it would cover my winter wheels and tyres also, as they were dealer supplied (I actually bought them second hand, but they were a dealer supplied package).

I haven't used it yet, but will be soon. It's worth it so long as you use it. You get 10 wheel refurbs (individual wheels) and 5 tyres with the policy I bought. I think I was around £300 for the policy, and so long as I get the wheels done twice during the policy, that should easily pay for itself.

The salesman did say to slash the tyres when they are getting low, in pairs, to get them covered with the policy. Reeks of insurance fraud to me, of course. Unsure if I will take his advice. But just for the refurbs, it should be good.

I think its a poor quality product and as a result I declined it when offered it with mine. The wheel refurb you are entitled to is usually just a smart repair - something you'd probably not pick anyway, especially with a complex diamond cut finish as per many wheels - and if you did you'd pay not a huge amount of money for it in the first place.

It isn't going to return 4 tatty curbed wheels to factory condition if thats what you think (and even if it did just how badly are you going to abuse your car to require more than one complete refurb on all the wheels?!?!)

That's pretty bad luck. Is there a way to cancel and maybe purchase from a uk reseller?

RE M135i mpgs: 44mpg is crazy high, but makes sense with the 50mph limits as you said. I once went to pick up the mrs on a night out on a 40 mile round trip late at night and was crawling on empty roads at 60mph even then I didn't get above 40mpg. I honestly hate using the eco pro mode though, makes you feel like you're driving a Corsa 1.2, preference is to use sport mode everywhere and use the throttle accordingly :) I'm also guessing you've got the 8 speed auto?

I don't think anyone stocks the satin anthracite ch-rs locally in that offset and wider 10.5 rear (e92 m3 direct fitment) as they aren't as popular as black or silver. Plus rimstyle are the only official resellers of Bbs in the UK so if they don't have it, I'd be surprised if anyone else does.

Oh well someone will be around to sign for them but want them now because I'm an impatient so and so :p

If you're getting them in from Germany, have you considered directly from a German distributor? Euro is quite weak compared to the pound so you could save some money..

Yes, it's the 8 speed auto, brilliant gearbox!

Baan Velgen are the only reputable dealer and their prices are the same as Rimstyle in the UK. Anyway they were shipped from BBS this morning so I can't change now :p

Fair enough. Post pics as soon as they come - they're going to look epic :)

Best first world problem ever.

'I can't fit my new genuine BBS wheels to my BMW M3 because I'm away in New York City'

:D

Major kudos for doing it right, I bet it'll look fantastic.

Haha when you put it like that...:p

Yh I did the whole rep wheels on my old 335 way back when and they sucked...I learnt my lesson. I think with wheels you have to do it right (ie top quality manufacturers or stick to oem).

These are what they look like:

iPotato pic i took this morning in the rain, i've been out in it all day so that's my excuse for not taking some decent pics with my dslr :D Absolutely in love with it, such a great car.

Hmm looks nice but the CSL reps don't have the deep concave dish of genuine CSLs, this makes them have less of a presence :(

Shame they're not genuine ones but i don't plan to take them off, In the flesh they make the car just stand out imo, I wouldn't want to swap them in for 108s or MV2s anyway, plus i don't fancy spending £xxxx on Genuine CSLs, rather save that sort of cash towards some M-Sport seats.

Plus I paid £4800 for her, i'm happy with it.
