Speaking of e46...

I've had mine a little over 2 months now, the more I drive it and the more I get to know it, the more I'm enjoying it. It is obviously very different coming from an S2000, but thankfully the S54 shares the willingness to rev of the S2000 whilst being an altogether more interesting engine when not at the top end of the rev range.

SMG has it quirks but given the slating it often receives I was expecting it to be much less competent than it's proven to be. It is obviously more agricultural than the newest dual clutch boxes or even the ZF8 slush boxes, you need to modulate the throttle more as you would with a manual box but it's fast and responsive both up and down the box and will happily slush around town.

As an all round package it's just been excellent really, it's comfortable and economical on a run, it's well enough equipped to not feel overly outdated (discovering the FreeView TV was a highlight), it's fast when you want it to be and is entertaining down a twisty road.

Hi Olv M3 m8.

That pic just highlights the epic presence of the CSL wheel. But they look epic mostly on silver/grey coloured paint options, they look good on carbon black of course and other dark colours, but they compliment silver and grey much better I feel.

I can't wait to refurb my callipers (flat black), the wheels will look decent with non aged brown callipers :p

There's another 4~ week wait on PF pads too, apparently there's a global shortage... Or maybe PF just make 10 a month I dunno. Highly rated pads though with minimal dust so am looking forward to having those on the car as it's highly tedious driving somewhere with clean wheels at the start and dust covered front wheels at the end.

Where do you live? Might stop by some night to borrow your car if you know what i mean? :D

Exterior wise the e46 doesn't look dated when seen in isolation.

Next to an e90 or f30 however it's a different story.

It's a cracking M3 none the less.

While they do indeed look more in with the style times when put next to each other on the road, there's no denying the E46 feels better put together with a higher level of material quality throughout!

Some lovely cars in here, had mine cleaned so thought I would post a few pictures, not the best ones and the lighting was a bit rubbish but wanted to take a couple before it decided to rain (was meant to be sunny....).

E46 M3; what should I be on the lookout for when I go view one to help steer clear of the money pits?

They're getting on a bit now so obvious signs of rust, especially around wheel arch and door mirrors. If the SMG pump, clutch, salmon relay, subframe have all been done what else is there to look for, on the car and in an abundance of receipts? It had an inspection 1 towards the end of May 2015.

Angel eyes, depo side lights, spoilers, carbon interior trim, replica wheels, spacers, coil overs, LEDzzz, stance, wrapped bits, tablets in the dash and fake CSL diffusers, bumpers and boot lids.

Thanks, OcUK motors proves a fount of knowledge once again :)

I was being serious. These are old cars now and a lot of them have been through the mill so find a nice standard car that's got a full and comprehensive service history and you'll be fine. They are pretty robust really. If you get a 2004 car it'll have the 14 year paint/corrosion warranty which will cover the arches should they rust (providing it's never had a shunt or any new paint). Late 2005/2006 cars will still be covered by BMW goodwill repair if the subframe is cracked.

Thanks for the corrosion warranty tip. The car I'm looking at is 2002 black coupe, ~90k miles, has had SMG pump replaced, subframe repaired, clutch replaced, new springs, bushes and BBK.

F30 328i: talk to me.

Crap plastic interior with suspect asymmetrical styling, stunning gearbox, great infotainment. Deliberately cheapened in order to give them something to do at the facelift with early 90's features like old-style halogen bulbs for indicators etc.
