BMW and M Power Owners

Just watched a few videos on youtube of doing the front brakes, which takes the same tools as the astra, and how to do the valve cover gasket.

Pretty confident I could do it myself but just wanted pointed in the right direction.

Going to have a look through receipts as I've seem one from last may for £420 where it was serviced and the CCV work done.

Just re - read my autocorrected post above

It's a simple job as above, just takes a little time as everything will be brittle (couple of hours)

There is nothing complicated about the way BMW brakes are set up, the most difficult thing you might had to do is give the rear discs a whack to release them from the handbrake shoes

Other thing I've noticed is the temperature needle doesn't seem to rise above the first white marker so I'm assuming the thermostat is stuck open.

That more of a ball ache?

Nah just needs the fan and belts off - do it at the same time as the rocker and also the water pump and check rad for damage at the same time

Anyone know where one can find out the price of BMW extended warranty for given vehicle series type? The best I can do is put the reg of an older vehicle not currently covered and take that as an indication. That is not much help when making a purchasing decision on a car still under manufacturer's warranty. Sure can just ring them but wondered if there was a tool or website somewhere? If there is I sure can't find it!

Also noticed a BIG monthly ££ difference between £100 and £250 excess.

Email them and they will provide you with a price matrix.

Generally, if you assume 1 claim a year then £100 excess is best value, no claims and £250 is best value, more than 3 claims and £0 is best value.

2 claims seemed to be the break even point between £0 and £100 excess.

Prices and product availability are entirely mileage driven.

Out of curiosity, have you claimed us on your policy?

There shouldn't be anything brittle when removing the rocker cover. It's about 20 minutes to take off and 20 minutes back on. Definitely not a couple of hours.

Rear discs you wind in the handbrake pad slightly so you don't have to bash at it.

If there is "only" 18 months New Car warranty left on an AUC do you think it is worth haggling to get another years extended warranty thrown in?

This is in the context of a £43k car on the forecourt. With my own trade-in worth £25K I have a £18k delta at the price on the forecourt. I want that delta to be £15k and possibly less and maybe an extension of the warranty. Do you think that's reasonable?
What do you think FOX?

IIRC they can only top up to 2 years, so you'll be getting an extra 6 months.

It's only worth about 400ish to you but I think they need to pay the full price for it so it becomes less of a no brainer to haggle it in.

The sparkplug well gaskets always fall to bits and you need to prise the actual rocker off the right way or it'll break too - it's never a 20 min job for someone that hasn't done one before, double it at least for someone not that mechanically minded and taking their time.

Winding the rears in a click doesn't always work on old shoes or if the mechanism has buggeredd itself, like they seem to enjoy doing

Yes there is, did it this weekend on a 12 year old Z4 and all the spark plug well rubber bits had gone brittle and plasticy. Have to be careful when removing them :D

Agreed.

When I had my rocker cover gasket replaced the old one came off in a bowl full of small pieces.
