BMW and M Power Owners

The Mondeo Ghia X is an option I've considered but it doesn't appear to be all that more fuel efficient than the BMW?

I don't mind paying for repairs, I'd just rather not be left at the side of the road or be needing repairs every month.

Re fuel efficiency, I found that too... My toy has twice the power yet similar fuel economy.

Paying out *every* month, is likely to be limited to lemons of either. The 330 is capable of throwing significant bills (it's no TVR by all accounts), but I feel quite confident in saying it has very little chance of costing you a new turbo etc... :D

Buy carefully/slowly (privately?) & you should find something decent...

What's your budget/annual mileage/gearbox preference?

Less than £5k/more than 15k/in the past I'd have said manual but if I have to sit in traffic I'm sure I'll love the auto

Basically my circumstances have changed and I'm in new territory.

My 14a has had preventative rust treatment, hose upgrades, bush changes, gasket changes etc It's running pretty much perfectly. But it lacks comfort and cruise etc. It'll apparently squeeze out 35mpg when running on super unleaded. We're probably looking at around £300 on fuel a month?

Good evening, I'm asking this on behalf of a friend as I know nothing about BMW's in general. He has a 2006 320d e90, he said he wanted to get an M-Sport OEM kit for it but I said not to bother as he won't have the 'go for the show', not that I know the specs of either car.
I know remapping is quite common with diesels and was wondering if there was a trusted company or product that anyone on here could recommend.
He is not interested in modifying the car past this point though so no air filters or whatnot.
Thanks

Anyone every changed the final stage resistor on an e46? I did it on sunday, it is the worst job I have ever had to do on a car, soooo fiddly and I had to perform SAS stress positions to get my head in the right place. Oh well, at least my fans work again.:)

Does the 330i run on normal unleaded petrol?

If I can achieve around 35mpg on a 30 mile 99% motorway journey (1% dually) then I think I will be persuaded.

There aren't that many BMW's that won't run on normal, are there?

My Z4 35i states quite clearly that normal unleaded is fine.

Well I'm guessing they will all run on it but maybe I should have asked whether they need Super for optimal performance and economy.

I always use V Power in the 14a and last time I checked it was a bit more than 5p a litre more than normal - will double check though because it's been a while since I used V Power.

I always run super in my 330i and on a motorway run, it'll happily sit at ~35-37 mpg (indicated on the OBC).

I've put normal petrol in with no ill effect so can't see there being any issues with doing so.

Yeah weirdly mine states that for optimal performance use 95+

VPower is 10p a litre more, but Sainsburys/Tesco/Esso Super is only 5p a litre more.

When it was stock, I filled up with a tank of regular unleaded as an experiment and found I got about ~50 more miles to the tank with similar driving (motorway) when running V-Power in my 330Ci. Didn't notice any particular decrease in performance when I did - maybe slightly less responsive but probably placebo. I run V-Power exclusively normally.

What were your tell-tale signs that they were cracked? Or was it during a tyre change/inspection that the cracks were discovered?

Warning came on to say I had a loss of pressure in a tyre, took it to be looked at and tyre place showed me the cracks in the rear wheels!

Waiting to hear the results of the "run out test".

I had the wheels refurbished recently and I'm hoping this doesn't go against me for some reason!

The roads around here are terrible and I wouldn't be at all surprised if they fail the 2mm test as I'm sure I've been down a pothole or two ;)

If they fail the "run out" test do I have any recourse with BMW at all?

I've decided to keep my current steed. I will keep an eye on 330s in the next few months and if I see one that meets my needs I might change, but we'll see how things go.

I did spot a lovely one owner 330i coupe go for less than £4k, it has around 80k IIRC - something like that would be perfect assuming it had bush changes etc.

Two new rear wheel authorised by BMW, there is a £100 labour charge to fit them but I'm not going to argue the toss to be honest, just pleased not to have to find two new wheels.
