BMW and M Power Owners

Hi all,

After advice. Been away for a month. Returned yesterday and drove to refill for fuel. took a 10 mile drive. No errors shown when driving. This morning drove the M2 to London on the way to work 20 minutes into journey the low pressure tyre warning light came on (red) Pulled into the petrol station and checked tyre pressures. All 4 pressures good and set at recommended PSI. Added a small amount of equal air to each tyre just to make sure.

The low tyre pressure warning light is still indicating on the dash. Stopped at petrol station in central london and rechecked all tyres. All PSI is equal and there doe not appear to be any PSI lost in either tyre, checked tyres no apparant objects in tyres to indicate a punture.

Do I need to reset the low presurre tyre warning light? slow punture? Advice most welcome.

Thanks
You should always reset the tyre pressure sensor after pumping them up, surely?

You need to reset the tyre pressure monitor, there will be a routine you have to do but no idea on your car, on mine its a option in car settings on the idrive.
Mine went low pressure when the weather first turned, seems pretty normal.

Thanks for the advice Peige. I will check my owner manual for reset information, or internet if not. Vehicle is 3 (E90) series (2008)

The sports seats are good... but the comfort seats are definitely better... get them if you can.

Given the choice, I'd pay the extra for them.

Depends on you though, you might prefer the sports seats - only way to know is to try them.

What is the general consensus on the 330e?

Most of my journeys are short, I have my own driveway so I can charge and while I don't do that many miles (int he last two years I have done 14k and that includes a huge Europe road trip) it would be possible to do most on electric only apart from when I need to go from London to Brackley.

A quick Q - does the battery charge while you drive or brake or is it plug only?

They don't exist yet in the UK so there isn't going to be a general consensus :p

Thought they were out March/April? OCUK usually has an opinion FAR earlier!

How can anyone have tried one yet?

I'm close to pulling the trigger on a 330e M Sport with metallic + pro nav.

What I've done is drive a petrol 3 series auto to get a feel for that, then spend 36 hours with an X5 40e hybrid to test the drivetrain.
The hybrid system is really seamless, I absolutely mean that. If you're driving in full auto edrive it very cleverly chops and changes as you go. You can switch to Max Edrive which more or less forces it to pick electric unless it's really struggling going up a hill for instance.

My commute is 25 miles, it's around 15 miles Single lane a roads, few country lanes and around 20 minutes of crawling through Bath. In the X5 in full auto edrive, I managed 56 mpg and the battery was all the way flat. I charged it at work successfully then hooned it home and still managed a fairly rep spectacle 28mpg. When in Sport and Auto Edrive the electric boosts the petrol and the performance was really good.

This is enough to convince me to take a punt on the 330e, if I can achieve 56mpg in the X5 which is considerably larger and has a smaller quote electric range, I'm hopeful for 65+ in the 330e which will be great. Plus any trips around town are easily achieved on electric only. In the evening I popped into Cabot Circus, had a wander and ate a restaurant, all the while it's charging for free in the car park. 99.9 mpg

Sorry for the terrible English I'm writing this from my phone sat waiting to pick someone up.

What sort of deal have you seen?

I really, really love the idea of the 330e but am put off by the fact that beyond the awesomeness of the Plug-in hybrid element unfortunately it is a 3 Series. It's really annoying that they don't do a 530e.

269.99 6+23 12k pa. Waiting on a quote for Pro Nav now. You're right beyond the gadgetry and cool factor of the electric, it's otherwise fairly boring. I found the ride and interior a step up from my Z4, but if would be a noticeable downgrade from a 5. Also worth bearing in mind, if you can't charge it it's only going to return 320i performance and economy, which isn't great.

I know it's not quite the same, but they do have the Active Hybrid in the 5, with the x35i engine. I would have bought one if they did it in Touring guise.

I have almost bought one of these about twice now. In theory they are absolutely amazing but they seem a huge risk with regards to a second hand purchase. The market appears to absolutely despise them - you see the same ones at the same dealers almost constantly. Several of the cars on the AUC site have been on there over a YEAR without selling. They now represent exceptional deals but if you can never sell it or trade it in the future then it becomes a very very expensive thing to own.

Plus BMW won't tell me whether the battery system is covered by the insured warranty product. The handbook excludes 'Batteries' but has identical wording to a handbook I found from 2008 so clearly wasn't written with the AH5 in mind.

Every single review of them is useless as they just get panned for being a waste of money over a 535i. Which when new is fine but these days they are as much as £8k cheaper than the equivilent 535i!

For me, it's the fact that they are 200kg heavier over a normal 535i, and the actual economy is nothing like what is suggested, which probably makes the 535i a better choice, if you could find one.

They are also more powerful than a 535i which counters the weight.

Its almost impossible to find a decent spec 535i whereas every AH5 M Sport is decent spec. You won't get a 2014 535i for 26k!

The AH5 is slower to 62 though, but I guess it's not easy to calculate that given on when / how the motor kicks in.

Yes, 200kg. At least, if you can read, that's what is written on the BMW website. I have to assume you have no real idea as to how much the batteries, and motor weigh in electric vehicles, otherwise your response would have been. "200kg, is that it?"

He's an automotive design engineer who owns a hybrid car himself so I doubt he has 'no idea' how much they weigh. He's probably surprised for some other reason.
