BMW and M Power Owners

Oh excuse me for wanting to be selective with who I share the information with and not just putting it out there on an internet forum for it to spread like wildfire and be shut down within days, I'd much rather be selective with who gets the discount on here and maybe keep it going as there are some genuinely good/kind people on here who I would rather get it than others.

Is the lump in the 650i not plagued by valve stem seals giving up/oil burning and the infamous middle-of-vee coolant line fail that is a real dog to fix? Reading about those put me off anything with the N62BXX range of engines in.

They still appeal for the other reasons though (namely being a big V8 with reasonable grunt).

Sold the E39 tonight.

The coolant was black with oil in the end so moving back to the Astra.

Feel like a dick since the guy(s) came up from Leeds, they are exporting it or something like that.

Got a E46 M3 here.

There is a problem with the SMG box, it likes to bang into gear and its grinding, feels like it is slipping.

Not had time too look at it yet but i have read a few forums about resetting the the SMG unit as the box learns the way the car is driven and sometimes can go lazy if the car hasn't been driven. Now i know this car has only done 1k miles in 1 year, only being used once or twice a month.

Also read about possibly needing a new SMG pump. Is this a big job? As in labour wise?

I'm not sure you can make it unlearn having a knackered gearbox!

Are you repairing it, i.e. on a mechanic basis, or have you bought a fixer-upper?

Plagued is overplaying it, they can suffer, but as with most of these things you only read doom and gloom when you google an issue. People with totally fine cars tend not to post threads :)

It might grind a bit if it hasn't been used much. They can also feel like they're slipping after a long run in one gear, God knows why.

The pump is a ~£1000 job so not the end of the world but bear it in mind when haggling. I'd try to buy it at a price that reflects the worst case (clutch and/or pump) and then have it all fully reset and see what's what. Could be nothing.

There are too many horror stories around the SMG cars from people that can't afford to run them. If you can then go for it.

Sounds like it will likely need £2500 being spent on it, if you're lucky :p

And i would still make a profit on it.

Seems the problem has come out of nowhere. Car hasn't been driven for 3 weeks and it was fine before then. Now its grinding and feels like it is slipping. Initially thought clutch had gone but after looking online its looks like its worth looking at this reset thing or the fluid. The look at the Pump and clutch.

If it was a easy enough job to swap to a manual box, that is what would be done but it sounds like its easier said than done on these with all the computers on the thing.

Thought i would just ask here first and see if anyone has any quick fix tips before i get my mechanic to look at it.

Just bought a 535D F11 Touring. Got a good deal. Looks great I think. Only thing I am not 100% sure on is the interior aluminium/hexagon trim (I hate the brushed aluminium) I'll just have to see how I get on with it and if needs be get it swapped if I do not like it. Whadyareckon?

Looks good, congrats! Nice spec as well, HUD is awesome.

Surprised BMW put false information in the advert though - it most certainly doesn't have front comfort seats!

First sighting of a BMW Z5 prototype:

The Z5 rides on a platform which is being co-developed by BMW and Toyota. Toyota is also expected to build its own sports car based on the joint platform.

The Z5 is supposed to spearhead a revival of the Z model lineup which will feature more dynamically impressive and exciting roadsters. The return to a soft-top as seen on this prototype represents a focus on lighter weight, which in addition to the car's mix of lightweight composite construction, should see the Z5 come in at a lighter weight and provide better performance than the Z4.

The future Z lineup is rumored to also including a Z3 and a Z1 roadster. The Z3 will share the Z5's modular RWD platform and the Z1 will be based on BMW's UKL FWD/AWD platform.
