BMW and M Power Owners

Guys is my 320d being over optimistic or what?

Drove from London to Nottingham tonight and managed to achieve 61MPG reported by the OBD is it a possibility it's been remapped?!

Following on from this I got 708 miles from a tank which I was mega impressed with but real world MPG is actually 52mpg I believe!

Is there a way to sort my OBD being so optimistic or??

The thirstier cars I've owned seemed to be spot on, whilst more economical cars tend to read optimistically. There is probably no correlation there but what you're seeing rings true to my experience.

I do the brim to brim test every time I fill up anyway.

I can imagine the flow meters they use to measure it become more accurate with higher flow, so it makes sense.

I always just leave them on the fuel range screen, it's probably the only useful one on most cars

Calculate it to see what you're really getting then you'll know whether it's optimistic.

I personally found my E91 320d to be reasonably accurate, but I only ever once got such figures from it (>60mpg). I averaged 51mpg over life, and normally saw ~55mpg on a typical A-B motorway run of >100 miles. Calculating the fuel showed the car was optimistic, but not by much (e.g. real was ~48mpg, car reported 50mpg).

Conversely my M135i seems pessimistic if anything, but generally more accurate. I also get much closer to the "official" figures in it that than I ever managed in the 320d.

Does anyone know when the new 5 series is due to be announced? Considering getting an F10 towards the end of the year, if the deals are right.

Yes, it'll be announced late this year and will probably go on sale around March 2017.

There is already up to £12k off list on F10's so not sure how much better the deals can get!

Went out in a work colleagues 420i xdrive today. Nice looking car but not a fan of the interior plastics. Felt kind of cheap for what was once a £40k car (it's a 14 plate with 18k miles - he managed to get it for about £23k from a main dealer).

Thanks. The lease on the car I want to change doesn't run out until the end of the year so I won't be doing anything yet.

I think there are only two main options I'm interested in (on M Sport trim), pro nav (or whatever provides the widescreen) and the M Sport plus pack, primarily for the wheels.

I'll have to review the prices of the engines, unlike probably most on here I do quite like the 20d engine (have an F20 120d and it's certainly not slow). I know it's obviously inferior to the likes of a 535d, but it can more than hold its own against the vast majority of traffic. I've driven a 535d Touring and didn't find it mind-blowingly quick, but it was very good indeed.

You might as well buy a used one if you only want a 520d, there are bags of them around and you can make a significant saving with a nearly new 520d M Sport with Plus pack and Pro media, both of which are common enough options packages.

I've had a quick look at the AUC site with those criteria and it looks like it's another 5 grand for a 30d over 20d with the same spec. And the same again for a 35d. Oh, and I'd definitely want Carbon Black, great colour. Went for Estoril for the F20 (after always liking it when it was more exclusive), and it's the best thing about the car!

Keep in mind that the five series is a significantly heavier car than a one series. What you may find pokey in a one won't be in a five...

That's true. I wouldn't buy anything without testing it thoroughly first. I had an F30 Touring (for a weekend) with the same 184bhp engine, and it didn't feel as quick, but was still quite similar. Not sure how this compares to a 5 series saloon in weight.

You'll be fine there as it seems 80% of F10's are Carbon Black :(

Not a fan?! I thought you would be.
